To analyze the reliability and factor structure of Smilkstein's Family APGAR scale. METHOD: 228 Peruvian male and female teenagers, aged 12 to 18 (M = 14.34), from Lima, Metropolitan area participated in the study. Indicators of goodness of fit were calculated through confirmatory factor analysis. RESULTS: Data reveal structure is monofactorial. Regarding reliability, Cronbach's alpha coefficient is appropriate (α = 0.729). The comparison of alpha coefficients suggests there is no slant. CONCLUSION: The Smilkstein's Family APGAR scale has appropriate psychometric properties useful for validation studies. It can be used in different lines of research, theoretical as well as applied.
