Abstract: Comprehensive changes in the world have revealed an urban view which suffers big changes in the ecological balance and the traditional settlements and requires confusion and renovation. In this context, it has been needed the effective use of resources and the sustainability and improvement of applied design principles in traditional settlements. In this article, according to the results of data obtained from examinations made in research area and field study analyses, traditional residential areas of Sanliurfa were evaluated under the criteria of ecological design, ecological degradation in Karaköprü Town were determined in the context of with the current developments and reconstructions and finally, some protective measures were proposed. When the traditional settlement patterns of Sanliurfa city were examined, it was observed that local resources were used in the most efficient way. However, structurings that are not appropriate for ecological settlement criteria have been observed in new...
Şanlıurfa, one of the oldest settlements in Mesopotamia; has had a strategic importance throughout history, since being close to water resources, being located on fertile lands and trade routes. When you look at the history of the city of Sanliurfa, it has been hosted many civilizations, with their cultural diversity. The city has a history of about 12 thousand years. Archeological site areas which bearing the traces of this historic past, contain important data on civilizations' cultures, lifestyles and environmental formations. There are many archaeological sites in the traditional city center of Şanlıurfa. One of them is the "Kızılkoyun necropolis archaeological site" which was declared as an archaeological site in 2012. There are many cave graves belonging to the early Roman period in the area of research. The study includes field survey-analysis studies related to the field and the stages of synthesis evaluation of these data.İn the content of the research; the status of the area before the announcement as a archaeological site and, Conservation-Planning process of the site after announcing Kızılkoyun Necropolis Archaeological Site, were evoliated, problems and possibilities were determined. According to the results obtained, future planning and implementation principles have been defined and recommendations related to the field have been developed.
