A ideia de memória de Alfred Gell, presente em seu “Arte e Agência”, que atravessa a biografia da pessoa (entendida não apenas enquanto humana, mas também como o próprio objeto de arte) é posta em diálogo com estudos contemporâneos sobre memória cultural a fim de se debater o papel da tradução na perpetuação do que se quer lembrar. As ideias de media de memória de Aleida Assmann intermedeiam todo o trabalho, sendo a hipótese de que a tradução é um medium de memória o que traça um caminho entre todo o raciocínio aqui desenvolvido. A tradução é aqui estudada em contato direto com a vida, bios, como parte da construção biográfica da pessoa e da obra de arte, ou, especificamente, literária, a fim de realoca-la nos debates sobre memória cultural.
