This is a study of the actions undertaken by professor Georges Dumas, a true mentor of the French cultural policy in Brazil. RESUMO: Análise comparativa dos discursos das diferentes políticas culturais francesas a partir da documentação dos Arquivos Diplomáticos franceses. A comparação das estratégias gaullista e vichysta esclarece os verdadeiros interesses das "missões" dos intelectuais c artistas franceses: utilizar a influência cultural francesa sobre as elites brasileiras como instrumento de propaganda política.ABSTRACT: Comparative analysis of the different frenen culture policies as seen from the Records of the French Foreign Office. Comparing both gaulliste and vichyste strategics reveals the real aim of the missions accomplished by the french intellectuals and artists. The vichyste government, and later the "French Committee for National Liberation", use french cultural influence on brazilian elites as a means of political propaganda.
