A água é um insumo fundamental em grande parte das indústrias e sua utilização correta é importante para a minimização dos impactos ambientais. A redução dos volumes captados pode ser obtida melhorando-se o processo de tratamento dos efluentes industriais, possibilitando o reuso da água e de outros insumos de valor agregado para o processo. Em uma refinaria de petróleo são gerados efluentes, sendo possível recuperar 68% da água por tratamentos convencionais. O tratamento dos efluentes por eletrodiálise recuperará mais 14% elevando para 82% de água recuperada. Visando o total reuso da água, está em processo de estudo a implantação de uma etapa de cristalização, objetivando recuperar os 18% restantes, possibilitando o total reuso da água. O efluente tratado pela cristalização consiste em uma solução aquosa com 0,5% de sais inorgânicos. Uma planta piloto de cristalização será montada para possibilitar a realização de testes. Este trabalho consiste no desenvolvimento de um modelo dinâmico para o cristalizador por evaporação a vácuo contínuo com recirculação forçada existente nessa planta piloto. Os efeitos nas características dos cristais (tamanho médio, desvio padrão e volume) causados em decorrência das variações na taxa e concentração de alimentação e na taxa de recirculação são simulados e analisados.
