Objective:to analyze the factors associated with suicidal ideation in a representative sample of university students. Methods:cross-sectional study, carried out with 637 students of the Federal University of Mato Grosso. The presence of suicidal ideation, demographic and socioeconomic variables, use of alcohol through the Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test, and depressive symptoms (Major Depression Inventory) were investigated. Bivariate analysis was performed with the Chi-square test and multivariate analysis using the Poisson regression model. Results:it was found that 9.9% of the students had suicidal thoughts in the previous 30 days and, in the bivariate analysis, the variables economic class, sexual orientation, religious practice, suicide attempts in the family and among friends, alcohol consumption and depressive symptoms were associated with suicidal ideation. In the multivariate analysis sexual orientation, suicide attempts in the family and the presence of depressive symptoms remained as associated factors. Conclusion:these findings constitute a situational diagnosis that enables the formulation of academic policies and preventive actions to confront this situation on the university campus.
Objective: to estimate the prevalence and factors associated with suicide risk among nurses and physicians. Method: a cross-sectional study carried out at a university hospital with 216 health professionals, who answered a socio-demographic-labor questionnaire, the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) for assessing suicide risk, and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS 21). The Poisson Regression Model was used for multiple analysis. Results: it was identified that variables such as not having a partner, history of attempted suicide, stress and depression symptoms were statistically associated with suicide risk. The prevalence of lifelong suicide attempts among nurses was 9.41%, and among physicians, 2.29%. Conclusion: the findings of this investigation enable the understanding of suicidal behavior among hospital nurses and physicians, in addition to enabling the development of prevention strategies in order to reduce suicide risk prevalence in this population group.
Objetivo: Descrever a prevalência da ideação suicida entre universitários e seu perfil sociodemográfico. Método: Estudo transversal, com 714 alunos em uma universidade pública do centro-oeste brasileiro. Instrumentos: questionário sociodemográfico e presença de ideação suicida, consumo de álcool e o Inventário de Depressão Maior. Realizada análise descritiva com intervalo de confiança de 95%. Resultados: 9,9% da amostra apresentaram ideação suicida nos últimos 30 dias anteriores à coleta de dados, prevaleceram a idade de 18 a 24 anos, sexo feminino, solteiros, pardos, não moravam sozinhos, heterossexuais, possuíam prática religiosa e cursavam os anos iniciais. Em 18,2% observaram-se tentativas de suicídio familiar com 8,9% tendo consumado. Entre os amigos, as prevalências foram 29,4% e 13% para a tentativa e suicídio, respectivamente. Consumo de álcool 72,4% apresentaram baixo risco, e 42% apresentaram sintomas depressivos. Conclusão: Conhecer as características dos universitários contribui para o direcionamento na criação de políticas de saúde dentro dos campus universitários.
Objetivo: avaliar a associação entre impulsividade e ideação suicida em estudantes universitários. Método: Estudo transversal, com 567 estudantes de uma universidade pública. Utilizou-se a Escala de Impulsividade de Barratt para avaliação da impulsividade e questionário para caracterização sociodemográfica e aferição de ideação suicida nos últimos 30 dias. As associações foram verificadas pelo teste qui-quadrado de Pearson (ou exato de Fisher, quando pertinente), com nível de significância de 5% e intervalo de confiança de 95%. Resultados: A prevalência de ideação suicida foi de 9,7%, estando mais presente entre mulheres e sujeitos entre 18 e 24 anos; 65,96% encontravam-se dentro dos limites normais de impulsividade. Houve associação significativa entre impulsividade e ideação suicida, sendo os grupos de universitários “altamente impulsivos” e “muito controlados” os mais expostos. Conclusão: os achados corroboram associações evidenciadas em outros estudos e reforçam a necessidade de ampliar a discussão do tema nas universidades e implementação de estratégias preventivas.
Objective: To analyze the effect of an educational intervention on the attitudes of university professors towards suicidal behavior. Methods: Experimental study, which carried out an educational intervention with 100 university professors, divided into two groups, control and intervention, developed in three moments, pre-assessment, intervention, and post-assessment, using the Eskin’s Attitudes Towards Suicide Scale (E-ATSS). Comparisons before and after intervention in the same group were performed using the paired t-test for dependent samples and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, and for comparisons between groups the paired t-test for independent samples and the Mann-Whitney U test were used, the significance level adopted was p < 0.05. Results: There was a change in the attitude of professors in the two domains of the suicide scale such as mental illness (p<0.001) and punishment after death (p<0.001) whose attitudes were negative in the pre-assessment phase. For the control group, no changes were observed. Conclusion: The educational intervention promoted positive changes in attitudes, with a significant change evaluated at the end of the intervention in the domains: suicide as mental illness and punishment after death.
