A new iris recognition method based on iris's speckles is presented for personal identification and verification. The principle of the proposed method, the pre-processing of the iris image and the characters extraction and matching are described in detail. In the proposed method, the speckles on the iris are extracted, the centers of these speckles are taken as iris character points and the range of these speckles is taken as assistant character. The matched number between the two corresponding iris images is found and is used to calculate the similarity between those two iris images. Iris matching is based on the calculated similarity. Experiment results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Index Terms -Iris recognition personal identification speckle
