The live streaming is more challenging than on-demand streaming, because the low latency is also a strong requirement in addition to the trade-off between video quality and jitters in playback. To balance several inherently conflicting performance metrics and improve the overall quality of experience (QoE), many adaptation schemes have been proposed. Bitrate adaptation is one of the major solutions for video streaming under time-varying network conditions, which works even better combining with some latency control methods, such as adaptive playback rate control and frame dropping. However, it still remains a challenging problem to design an algorithm to combine these adaptation schemes together. To tackle this problem, we propose a hybrid control scheme for adaptive live streaming, namely HYSA, based on heuristic playback rate control, latency-constrained bitrate control and QoE-oriented adaptive frame dropping. The proposed scheme utilizes KaufmanâĂŹs Adaptive Moving Average (KAMA) to predict segment bitrates for better rate decisions. Extensive simulations demonstrate that HYSA outperforms most of the existing adaptation schemes on overall QoE.

In this paper, we propose the pseudo two-hop distributed consensus algorithm under directed communication topologies. The convergence performance of the pseudo two-hop distributed consensus algorithm under directed communication topologies are analyzed, and the convergence conditions for the pseudo two-hop distributed consensus algorithm are given. In particular, the convergence rate is determined by the spectral radius of the matrix depend on the communication topology. Finally, simulation results are provided to verify these analytical results.
In the paper, we analyze the distributed flocking control algorithms under virtual leader-follower model with communication time-delay. Under virtual leader-follower model, flocking algorithm can avoid diverging, but the performance of flocking control algorithm with communication time-delay often degrades. In the paper, we analyze the impact brought by communication time-delay on the flocking algorithm when part agents can receive the information of the virtual leader, and simulations are done. Results show that the performance of distributed flocking algorithm depends on the number of agents that can receive the information of the virtual leader and the communication time-delay. Bigger is the number of agents that can receive the information of the virtual leader, better is the performance of flocking algorithms with communication time-delay.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
