About twenty years ago, Rabinowitz showed firstly that there exist heteroclinic orbits of autonomous Hamiltonian system joining two equilibria. A special case of autonomous Hamiltonian system is the classical pendulum equation. The phase plane analysis of pendulum equation shows the existence of heteroclinic orbits joining two equilibria, which coincide with the result of Rabinowitz. However, the phase plane of discrete pendulum equation is similar to that of the classical pendulum equation, which suggests the existence of heteroclinic orbits for discrete pendulum equation also. By using variational method and delicate analysis technique, we show that there indeed exist heteroclinic orbits of discrete pendulum equation joining every two adjacent points of {2kπ + π : k ∈ Z}.
We study periodic solutions of second order Hamiltonian systems with even potential. By making use of generalized Nehari manifold, some sufficient conditions are obtained to guarantee the multiplicity and minimality of periodic solutions for second order Hamiltonian systems. Our results generalize the outcome in the literature.
By using critical point theory, Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction method, and characterization of the Brouwer degree of critical points, sufficient conditions to guarantee the existence of five or six solutions together with their sign properties to discrete second-order two-point boundary value problem are obtained. An example is also given to demonstrate our main result.
For an orthogonal Γ-representation V (Γ is a finite group) and for an even, we consider the odd Newtonian systemẍ(t) = −∇f (x(t)) and establish the existence of multiple periodic solutions with a minimal period p (for any given p > 0). As an example, we prove the existence of arbitrarily many periodic solutions with minimal period p for a specific Dn-symmetric Newtonian system.
In the present paper, we consider the following discrete Schrödinger equations $$ - \biggl(a+b\sum_{k\in \mathbf{Z}} \vert \Delta u_{k-1} \vert ^{2} \biggr) \Delta ^{2} u_{k-1}+ V_{k}u_{k}=f_{k}(u_{k}) \quad k\in \mathbf{Z}, $$ − ( a + b ∑ k ∈ Z | Δ u k − 1 | 2 ) Δ 2 u k − 1 + V k u k = f k ( u k ) k ∈ Z , where a, b are two positive constants and $V=\{V_{k}\}$ V = { V k } is a positive potential. $\Delta u_{k-1}=u_{k}-u_{k-1}$ Δ u k − 1 = u k − u k − 1 and $\Delta ^{2}=\Delta (\Delta )$ Δ 2 = Δ ( Δ ) is the one-dimensional discrete Laplacian operator. Infinitely many high-energy solutions are obtained by the Symmetric Mountain Pass Theorem when the nonlinearities $\{f_{k}\}$ { f k } satisfy 4-superlinear growth conditions. Moreover, if the nonlinearities are sublinear at infinity, we obtain infinitely many small solutions by the new version of the Symmetric Mountain Pass Theorem of Kajikiya.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
