PurposeThis study aims to adopt cloud technology and develop a “cloud bookcase system” to make it possible to provide consistent mobile reading experiences to allow readers to use all kinds of mobile devices to read e-books.Design/methodology/approachThis study implements a cloud bookcase and uses four indicators (system quality, information quality, service quality, user satisfaction) to evaluate the system for reading e-books.FindingsAfter completing the system, the authors used a questionnaire to evaluate the system. The results show that the quality can meet the needs and satisfaction of users. Subsequent interviews with some of the participants also reveal the biggest concerns of readers include library policy, resources and system quality.Practical implicationsSystem quality, information quality, service quality and satisfaction are adopted as the indicators to assess the ratings from people using mobile devices to read e-books on the cloud bookcase system developed in this study to evaluate whether the cloud bookcase system is a successful information system as well as the relations between mobile device factors and user ratings. The results indicate that the ratings from more than half of the readers for the system, as shown in the various indicators, achieve more than 60%. From the interview results, the results show that some participants also reveal there is still room for improvement in some areas.Originality/valueThis study implements a cloud bookcase and there are three contributions: (1) the cloud bookcase system developed in this study based on related theories proves able to meet the needs of users, (2) this system had high ratings for all four indicators, (3) the interview responses reveal that most people regard system quality as the most important, and some of the people value some of the items more, including library policy, readers' interests and more resources, especially the number of e-books available.
With the swift development of technology in recent years, entrepreneurs are facing rapid changes in industry. To cope with such changes at home and abroad, The Ministry of Education is actively promoting innovative education with the aim of cultivating students' entrepreneurship. On this basis, this study proposes an innovative curriculum design based on an Internet-of-Things (IoT) programming course. The reason is that it develops computational thinking skills while students are learning programming and also cultivates logical thinking skills and problem-solving skills, which are critical to entrepreneurship. We also design a number of learning activities that enable students to express their opinions and ideas while gaining more knowledge through peer interaction and discussion. Overall, this study explores the impact of "maker education" on students' attitudes toward computer thinking. The results indicate that maker education has a positive impact on their ability to learn computer skills. In terms of learning motivation, students are not motivated by maker education and reduce their confidence on the curriculum. The reason may be that the curriculum requires the acquisition of software and hardware skills, which will increase the student's learning burden, so they more likely to encounter learning disabilities.
The rapid development of technologies such as tablet PCs and 4G/5G networks has further enhanced the benefits of mobile learning. Although mobile devices are convenient and provide a variety of learning benefits, they are unable to improve students’ learning outcomes without an appropriate learning strategy. Furthermore, little research has been conducted to examine the effects of using collaborative learning on mobile devices. This study proposed a cooperative learning framework using Google Docs to explore the learning outcomes of students of natural science in an elementary curriculum. The study was of a quasi-experimental design with an experimental group (cooperative learning) and a control group (personal learning). The results show that a cooperative learning approach using Google Docs improved learning outcomes, teaching interest, and understanding of campus plants, and reduced cognitive load. One conclusion of the study is that the collaborative learning approach associated with mobile learning is more effective than personal learning. In addition, this paper also provides brief recommendations to expand on the study’s limitations. Future work should investigate the impact of collaborative learning on different environments for mobile learning.
The flipped teaching method has become increasingly mature and critical. Previous flow experience studies have concentrated on game-based learning, and cognitive load studies have concentrated on different types of teaching materials (e.g., video). Due to the characteristic differences between problem-based learning and the Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate (CDIO) engineering design, the authors were interested in applying the CDIO engineering design to the flipped programming course. This study was proposed to measure students’ cognitive load and flow experience by using CDIO engineering design in the flipped programming course, which used a one-group pretest–post-test nonequivalent-groups design method for 16 weeks. This study recruited 40 college students (males = 14, females = 26) who were first-year freshmen attending a university as its subjects. The results indicate that the students showed no significant improvement between cognitive load and gender difference in cognitive load and flow experience, but that they significantly improved some dimensions of flow experience. This study provides implications and evidence related to applying the CDIO engineering design in flipped programming courses.
Aim to study how to evaluate the service quality of commercial fitness clubs, this paper studies the service quality evaluation of Yate fitness clubs on the basis of SERVQUAL scale combined with interviews and questionnaires. We make correlation analysis of service quality evaluation dimensions and overall service quality, and the analysis of value function, to obtain the demand of consumers for a specific index and the effect of the index on the overall satisfaction. The results verify the validity of the SERVQUAL evaluation model, enrich and perfect the research method of service quality evaluation model, and also provide accurate and specific improvement measures for Yate club.
