Uvod: Korištenje nedozvoljenih sredstava jedan je od najvećih problema modernog sporta. Svjetska antidoping organizacija predstavlja glavnu instituciju u globalnoj borbi protiv dopinga te za viziju ima postojanje svijeta u kojem se sportaši mogu natjecati u okruženju bez dopinga. Nuspojave koje se mogu javiti nakon korištenja nedopuštenih sredstava obuhvaćaju neurološke, kardio-vaskularne, respiratorne, mišićno-koštane, endokrine, dermatološke, reproduktivne i ostale promjene na organizmu. Također, mogu se javiti različiti psihički poremećaji, te u najgorem slučaju i smrt. Upravo zbog toga, kao najvažnija karika u borbi protiv dopinga, nameće se pravovremena edukacija sportaša, liječnika, fizioterapeuta i trenera. Cilj rada: Utvrditi spoznaju sportaša o nedozvoljenim sredstvima i njihovoj štetnosti na zdravlje te utvrditi da li postoji razlika o spoznaji o nedozvoljenim sredstvima između sportaša profesionalaca i rekreativaca. Materijali i metode: U presječnom prospektivnom istraživanju, uključeno je 90 ispitanika koji su stariji od 18 godina i koji se aktivno bave sportom. Ispitanici su podijeljeni u 2 skupine: prvu skupinu koju čine profesionalni sportaši i drugu skupinu koju čine rekreativni sportaši. U prvoj skupini profesionalnih sportaša sudjelovalo je 39 ispitanika, te 51 ispitanik u drugoj skupini rekreativnih sportaša. Anketno ispitivanje provedeno je strukturiranim anketnim upitnikom kao mjernim instrumentom.Rezultati: Istraživanjem spoznaje sportaša o štetnosti korištenja dopinga u sportu došlo se do zaključka da ne postoji statistički značajna razlika između dviju grupa, odnosno spoznaje sportaša profesionalaca i sportaša rekreativaca, ali postoji statistički zna-čajna pozitivna veza između duljine bavljenja sportom i spoznaje o štetnosti dopinga na zdravlje sportaša. Promatrajući sportaše s obzirom na prijašnje korištenje nedopuštenih sredstava može se uočiti da 27,78% promatranih sportaša imaju navedeno iskustvo.Zaključak: Profesionalni sportaši u usporedbi s rekreativnim sportašima nemaju veću spoznaju o štetnom utjecaju korištenja dopinga u sportu.
