Photocatalytic conversion of diluted CO2 into solar fuel is highly appealing yet still in its infancy. Herein, we demonstrate the metal‐node‐dependent performance for photoreduction of diluted CO2 by constructing Ni metal–organic framework (MOF) monolayers (Ni MOLs). In diluted CO2 (10 %), Ni MOLs exhibit a highest apparent quantum yield of 1.96 % with a CO selectivity of 96.8 %, which not only exceeds reported systems in diluted CO2 but also is superior to most catalysts in pure CO2. Whereas isostructural Co MOLs is almost inactive in diluted CO2, indicating the performance is dependent on the metal nodes. Experimental and theoretical investigations show that strong CO2 binding affinity of Ni MOLs is the crucial factor, which stabilizes the Ni‐CO2 adducts and facilitates CO2‐to‐CO conversion.

A photoanode based on ZnO nanotetrapods, which feature good vectorial electron transport and network forming ability, has been developed for efficient photoelectrochemical water splitting. Two strategies have been validated in significantly enhancing light harvesting. The first was demonstrated through a newly developed branch-growth method to achieve secondary and even higher generation branching of the nanotetrapods. Nitrogen-doping represents the second strategy. The pristine ZnO nanotetrapod anode yielded a photocurrent density higher than those of the corresponding nanowire devices reported so far. This photocurrent density was significantly increased for the new photoanode architecture based on the secondary branched ZnO nanotetrapods. After N-doping, the photocurrent density enjoyed an even more dramatic enhancement to 0.99 mA/cm(2) at +0.31 V vs Ag/AgCl. The photocurrent enhancement is attributed to the greatly increased roughness factor for boosting light harvesting associated with the ZnO nanotetrapod branching, and the increased visible light absorption due to the N-doping induced band gap narrowing of ZnO.

Four genomic DNAs of differing GC content (Micrococcus luteus, 72% GC; Escherichia coli, 50% GC; calf thymus, 42% GC; Clostridium perfringens, 27% GC) have been employed as targets of interaction by the cationic polyamines spermidine ([H(3)N(CH(2))(3)NH(2)(CH(2))(4)NH(3)](3+)) and spermine ([(CH(2))(4)(NH(2)(CH(2))(3)NH(3))(2)](4+)). In solutions containing 60 mM DNA phosphate (approximately 20 mg DNA/ml) and either 1, 5 or 60 mM polyamine, only Raman bands associated with the phosphates exhibit large spectral changes, demonstrating that B-DNA phosphates are the primary targets of interaction. Phosphate perturbations, which are independent of base composition, are consistent with a model of non-specific cation binding in which delocalized polyamines diffuse along DNA while confined by the strong electrostatic potential gradient perpendicular to the helix axis. This finding provides experimental support for models in which polyamine-induced DNA condensation is driven by non-specific electrostatic binding. The Raman spectra also demonstrate that major groove sites (guanine N7 and thymine C5H(3)) are less affected than phosphates by polyamine-DNA interactions. Modest dependence of polyamine binding on genome base composition suggests that sequence context plays only a secondary role in recognition. Importantly, the results demonstrate that polyamine binding has a negligible effect on the native B-form secondary structure. The capability of spermidine or spermine to bind and condense genomic B-DNA without disrupting the native structure must be taken into account when considering DNA organization within bacterial nucleoids or cell nuclei.

This paper embarks upon three levels of undertaking ranging from nanomaterials synthesis to assembly and functionalization. First, we have prepared size-tunable anatase TiO(2) nanospindles via a hydrothermal process by using tubular titanates as self-sacrificing precursors. Second, we have densely dispersed the TiO(2) nanospindles onto functional graphene oxides (GO) via a spontaneous self-assembly process. After annealing of the TiO(2)/GO hybrid nanocomposite in an NH(3) gas flow, the TiO(2) surface was effectively nitridated and the GO was reduced to graphene sheets (GS) in order to further fortify the electronic functionality of the nanocomposite. Third, the anatase@oxynitride/titanium nitride-GS (TiO(2)@TiO(x)N(y)/TiN-GS) hybrid nanocomposite was studied as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), showing excellent rate capability and cycling performance compared to the pure TiO(2) nanospindles. Our systematic studies have revealed that the TiO(2)@TiO(x)N(y)/TiN-GS nanocomposites with graphene nanosheets covered with the TiO(2)@TiO(x)N(y)/TiN nanospindles on both sides provide a promising solution to the problems of poor electron transport and severe aggregation of TiO(2) nanoparticles by enhancing both electron transport through the conductive matrix and Li-ion accessibility to the active material from the liquid electrolyte. More generally, the size-tunable TiO(2) nanospindles with their unique (101) outer surface planes provide an archetype for the in depth investigation of their surface-specific and size-dependent physicochemical properties.

ABSTRACTTheories of perceived overqualification have tended to focus on employees' job-related responses to account for effects on performance. We offer an alternative perspective and theorize that perceived overqualification could influence work performance through a relational mechanism. We propose that relational skills, in the form of interpersonal influence of overqualified employees, determine their tendency to experience social acceptance and thus engage in positive work-related behaviors. We tested this relational model across two studies using time-lagged, multi-source data. In Study 1, the results indicated that for employees high on interpersonal influence, perceived overqualification was positively related to self-reported social acceptance, whereas for employees low on interpersonal influence, the relationship was negative.Social acceptance, in turn, was positively related to in-role job performance, interpersonal altruism, and team member proactivity evaluated by supervisors. In Study 2, we focused on peer-reported social acceptance and found that the indirect relationships between perceived overqualification and supervisor-reported behavioral outcomes via social acceptance were negative when interpersonal influence was low and nonsignificant when interpersonal influence was high.
