This paper presents an effective optimisation technique for the deformation performance design and strength design of concrete transfer beam structures under gravity and horizontal loads. This technique has the capability to simultaneously consider the serviceability vertical deformation performance requirements and the ultimate strength reinforcement design in optimisation. This technique can also automatically resize and reinforce elements to produce the minimum of the total cost design, while satisfying specified design performance criteria. It can help structural engineers to distribute materials efficiently throughout the structure to improve current traditional trial-and-error design.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
