We investigated the thermal reactivity of sodium plating on Ni substrate with 1 M NaPF 6 /organic carbonate electrolyte with and without FEC to evaluate the thermal safety of a sodium ion battery. Without FEC, the heat flow profile of sodium plating exhibits lower peak intensity and larger width than lithium one. On the other hand, with FEC, the heat flow profile dramatically changes, exhibiting higher intensity of more than three times than FEC-free one. The higher reactivity is attributed to the higher specific surface area and larger active metal amount at the collapse temperature of the protective film formed by FEC.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
