The relativistic composition of velocities is interpreted in terms of the rapidity triangle, as a generalization of the non-relativistic parallelogram rule. Some geometrical experiments are presented for grasping essential properties of the rapidity triangle, by preparing a curved sheet of paper on which the composition of rapidities is mapped. The Wigner rotation and accordingly the Thomas precession are interpreted also in the same scheme.
The opmwns expressed tn these columns do not necessarily reflect those ot the Editors. Commuizzcatwns should be submttted tn dupltcate and should be held to wzthtn 100 lmes (p1ca type) on standard stze letter paper (approx. 21X.30 em), so that each letter may be arranged mto two pages when prmted. Do not forget to count rn enough space for formulas, figures or tables.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
