The electrochromic behavior of amorphous WO3 films prepared by electron-beam deposition has been studied. SIMS analysis has revealed that lithium accumulates in amorphous WO3 films during reversible coloring and bleaching in propylene carbonate solution of LiC104. When a large quantity of lithium has been injected into WO3 films, an absorption spectrum different from tungsten bronze is observed. In these films, lithium tungstate has been observed using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction analysis. It has been concluded that the degradation of electrochromism of amorphous WO3 is caused by the formation of stable lithium tungstate.
009ChemInform Abstract SIMS results obtained for an amorphous WO3 film (prepared by electron-beam deposition) after coloring/bleaching cycles in LiClO4/propylene carbonate solution show that lithium accumulates in the WO3 films. For films containing large amounts of Li, reversible coloration does not occur and the formation of lithium tungstate is detected by XPS and XRD. It is concluded that the formation of the stable lithium tungstate is responsible for the degradation of the electrochromism of amorphous WO3.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
