A 3-month-old boy, mildly cyanosed and tachypneic, was found by cineangiography to have a nonbranching main pulmonary artery arising from the right ventricle and connecting to the descending aorta via a large persistent ductus arteriosus. The left and right pulmonary arteries arose as a common "trunk," before branching, from the ascending aorta. Complete surgical correction was performed at 7-months of age. Subsequent cardiac catheterization has demonstrated normal pressures and blood oxygen saturation in all right-heart chambers and the great arteries.
at the same period of time. Again, relationships between the diagnosis of breast cancer and several factors involved in the mass screening were analyzed. 1) During the last one decade (1977-1986) 6,828 women received the mass screening. 2) Recently, approximately examination, and 91.3% of them received the second screening. Breast cancer was detected in 10 screeners (0.15%), which corresponded to 2.66% of 376 women received the second screening. 3) Among the 10 breast cancer patients, 5 were detected by the first screening, while the remaining 5 by yearly repeated screening. 4) All tumors were in early stages. Though some had insufficient postoperative courses, a favorable prognosis was shown in all the patients. 5) A comparison of these 10 with 63 breast cancer patients who visited our hospital with a self-noticed breast tumor 80% of the 63 patients might be exactly diagnosed earlier by at least 540 to 760 days, if they received the mass screening. 6) There were significant correlations between some factors including age, previous benign diseases in the breast and mastodynia, and screeners who were recommended to take the second examination.
The bronchial scrubbing method under artificial pneumothorax technique was studied as the diagnostic method for the bronchoscopically invisible lung cancer . 17 of 20 lung cancer cases (85%) were cytologically positive, 9 of these 17 cases were positive only by this method. Many lung cancer cases restricted the stenotic or obstructive movement of bronchi seen at the time of lung collapse. The scrubbing brush is easily inserted into the lesioned bronchus under this condition.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
