: The intrinsic birefringence value of Poly(L-lactic acid) was estimated experimentally for the drawn and annealed fiber, in which almost all of the crystals involved are the a-form. The value 0.030 -0.033 was obtained using Stein's formula by substituting the results of structural analysis for highly drawn and annealed samples. The extrapolated value 0.030 was also obtained by assuming the affine deformation. On the other hand, as the intrinsic birefringence value of the a-form crystal, -0.013 was also obtained by summation of bond polarizability using crystal structure data. The experimental value is more believable because the contribution of convalent bond alone was included in the calculation.
Cutaneous adverse events caused by aromatase inhibitors have been reported to be rare. We describe a rare case of a cutaneous adverse event that developed in a cancer-affected breast after aromatase inhibitor treatment. A 72-year-old postmenopausal female patient who was diagnosed with stage IA breast cancer received anastrozole as adjuvant treatment. Six months after the initiation of anastrozole, she developed an irregularly shaped purpuric plaque with several purpuric papules surrounding the postoperative scar on her left breast. Histological findings revealed capillary vessel proliferation and expansion, with hemorrhage in the superficial dermis. Immunohistochemistry of the skin biopsy specimen revealed hormone receptor expression limited to the vascular endothelial cells of the proliferating and expanding vessels. We believe that anastrozole induced a change in the local estrogen level, which affected the hormone receptor-positive endothelial cells in the dermis near the primary lesion of the breast cancer and caused a cutaneous adverse event only in the aforementioned area.
An industrial melt-spinning process of tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer (FEP) using an extruder was studied. The novel "spinneret," having both a large-diameter spinning nozzle and a high-temperature vessel, was used to solve the problem of filament breakage on the spinning line caused by high melting viscosity of FEP. The extruder, with its long feed zone, was newly designed to function with a geared pump. The strength of fibers increased with drawing of as-spun fiber. FEP fibers up to six denier were continuously produced through long-run production. According to this new process, FEP fibers can be supplied for textile or industrial application.
JDM have been diagnosed in the last 12 years, but this is the first case of JDM-associated panniculitis.DM-related panniculitis consists of a mostly lobular panniculitis occurring concurrently with muscle weakness, which suggests an aetiopathogenetic relationship between the two. 3 It is of interest that the striking inflammatory presentation occurred in our case in the setting of a full-dose immunosuppressive treatment, similar to previous reports. 4,5 Infection should be carefully excluded in patients prior to upgrading immunosuppressive therapy.Supporting the suggestion of other authors, we believe that JDM-related panniculitis might be underdiagnosed, and it should be included in the differential diagnoses of subcutaneous lesions in patients with JDM. 4
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
