RESUMO: Objetivo: comparar a aptidão física em crianças e adolescentes de diferentes níveis de maturação sexual. Metodologia: a amostra foi constituída de 275 indivíduos eutrófi cos, entre 6 e 16 anos de idade, participantes regulares de atividades desportivas, classifi cados conforme os estágios de maturação sexual. As variáveis de aptidão física medidas, foram: fl exibilidade, força de preensão manual (FPM), força explosiva, resistência muscular localizada (RML), velocidade em 50m e consumo máximo de oxigênio (VO 2máx ) absoluto e relativo à massa corpórea. A massa corporal e a estatura foram mensuradas para o cálculo do IMC. Para comparar os estágios maturacionais foi utilizada a análise de variância (ANOVA) com post-hoc de Tukey, com p<0,05. Resultados: foram encontradas diferenças entre os estágios maturacionais, para ambos os sexos, nas seguintes variáveis: FPM, força explosiva, RML, velocidade de 50 metros e VO 2máx absoluto. Para as meninas foi também encontrada a diferença para a fl exibilidade e VO 2máx relativo. Conclusão: com base nestes resultados, é marcante a diferença do nível de aptidão física com o avanço maturacional, se elevando determinantemente em ambos os sexos, tornando-se relevante verifi car nessa fase da vida a evolução das variáveis de aptidão física para ambos os sexos.
