Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides L.) plants are able to protect the soil from erosion and are tolerant of salinity stress. However, at high salinity levels, vetiver plants show a decreasing growth. The application of gibberelin is expected to increase the growth of vetiver in salinity stress conditions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the growth responsiveness and production of vetiver the application of gibberelin under salinity stress conditions. This research was conducted in the green house of the Faculty of Agiculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan. This study used a non-factorial completely randomized design, namely the salinity stress (S) which consisted of 3 levels, each treatment was repeated 3 times, so that 9 treatment combinations were obtained: the concentration of gibberelin was 0 (no treatment), 50 ppm and 100 ppm.
Kebutuhan air irigasi tanaman merupakan hal yang penting untuk dipenuhi agar pertumbuhan tanaman tersebut optimal mulai dari fase vegetatif sampai fase generatif. Permasalahan yang sedang hangat di kalangan petani tanaman buah dalam pot saat ini adalah masalah gugurnya bakal buah (putik) pada tanaman tersebut. Banyak faktor penyebab gugurnya bakal buah tanaman, salah satunya adalah kekurangan air. Hal ini tentu perlu mendapat perhatian khusus mengingat sifat dari tanaman jambu air sendiri, dalam penelitian ini khususnya jambu air madu hijau, mengkonsumsi air cukup tinggi setiap harinya. Untuk mengatasi masalah kekurangan air pada tanaman jambu air madu hijau tersebut, perlu diketahui terlebih dahulu kebutuhan air tanaman rata-rata dalam pot melalui analisis kadar air di laboratorium pada tiga tahap analisis dan perhitungan Pot Water Requirements (PWR) serta Efisiensi Kebutuhan Air Irigasi. Rata-rata Kadar Air Kapasitas Lapang dari sampel media tanam dalam pot berkisar 48,66 %, Kadar Air Kering Udara berkisar 24,02 % dan PWR 5,38 liter dengan efisiensi kebutuhan air irigasi sistem curah (hand move atau portable) sebesar 5,62-6,37 liter dan sistem irigasi tetes (point source emitter) sebesar 4,84 – 5,45 liter.
Vetiver is widespread in saline areas. Only a few studies have reported that they are sufficiently tolerant of salt. The primary mechanism of salt tolerance in vetiver is still not known with certainty. This study aims to determine salinity's effect on early growth of vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides L.) seedlings. This research was conducted in a greenhouse, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan. This study used a non-factorial randomized block design (RBD), namely the salinity stress (S) which consisted of 3 levels: EC salinity levels of 0 (distilled water), 4 dsm-1 and 8 dsm-1. The salinity stress treatment showed a significant effect of reducing the growth parameters of plant height, leaf area, chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b. Salinity stress treatment gave significantly better effect in conditions without salinity stress.
