The effects of column dimensions, gas velocity and the properties of liquid and solid particles on the gas holdup s6 and the volumetric liquid-phase mass transfer coefficient kLain the solid-suspended bubble columnof liquid-solid batch operation were studied experimentally. The presence of suspended solid particles in the bubble column reduces values of sG and kLa, and their reduction by an addition of solid particles to the column is high in the transition regime and low in the heterogeneous flow regime. Based on these observations, empirical equations for % in transition flow and in heterogeneous flow, and an empirical equation for kLa a applicable to the above two flow regimes are proposed.
DVT assessment using ultrasonography is important for proper management of VTE during the perioperative period of spinal surgery, especially for high-risk patients, such as those with advanced age or neurological deficit. The institutional protocol for VTE using pneumatic sequential compression device and compression stockings is effective, although the administration of chemoprophylaxis should be considered for high-risk patients, such as those with spinal tumors and spinal trauma.
[Purpose] It is considered that in knee extension, the hamstring acts in a closed kinetic chain. The objective of this study was to examine the correlation between knee flexion strength measured by a hand-held dynamometer (HDD) and leg extension torque measured by StrengthErgo.[Subjects] The subjects were 22 healthy adults with no impairments of the leg.[Method] We measured as body weight ratios, peak torque during left and right leg extension, and left and right knee flexion strength. Then, we examined the correlations between left and right leg extension torque and knee flexion strength using Spearman's correlation coefficient.
Purpose] This study investigated the relationship between leg extensor torque and hip flexor and extensor muscle strengths of males and females.[Subjects] The subjects were 53 healthy adults with no disorders of the lower limbs.[Methods] For both males and females, we measured the peak torque relative to body weight of the right and left legs during extension, as well as hip flexor and extensor muscle strengths relative to body weight. We then examined the relationship between leg extension torque and hip flexor and extensor strengths using Spearman correlation coefficients. [Results] We found strong to moderate correlations between male left and right extension torque and hip flexor and extensor strengths, and moderate to weak correlations between female left and right extension torque and hip flexor and extensor strengths. [Conclusion] In males, hip flexor and extensor muscles play a large role in producing leg extension torque, whereas their contribution is less in females.
, to gain an understanding of the situation in order to address the issues. [subjects] the subjects were 47 newly licensed physical therapists with an average age of 23.9±3.8 years. [method] we analyzed the answers returned in a self-reported questionnaire. [results] the prime worry of the newly licensed physical therapists in conducting consultations was: "I am not confident in my assessments and treatments" (31 persons). their main concern regarding workplace regulations and systems was: "i won't be trusted as one of the team in an emergency" (19 persons). [Conclusion] Regarding the anxieties related to risk management of newly licensed physical therapists, we conclude that the education of the physical therapists before graduation and the induction education systems of the facilities employing them were factors in individuals' abilities.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
