In electrical power engineering, the accuracy of the state estimation of phasor angles can be improved by the use of phasor measurement units (PMUs). Traditionally, voltage phase angles are determined by state estimation. The paper addresses two possible methods for examining the impact of PMU measurements in state estimation. The PMU measurements use Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to measure phase, and the measurement is very accurate. An index of accuracy is proposed and used to quantify the impact of PMUs on power system state estimation. An illustrative example is given.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
