Soybean development in mineral soils of tidal land is hindered by aluminum toxicity. Modification of growing environment and the use of tolerant variety are feasible alternatives. The experiment was conducted with several objectives (1) to identify growth and yield of black soybean at depths of water table, (2) to identify growth and yield of black soybean as effected by application of ameliorants, (3) to identify growth and yield of black soybean, (4) to identify interaction between depth of water table, type of ameliorant, and black soybean variety. It also used mineral soils with watershed B type of tidal land in South Sumatera on May to August 2014. Factors investigated were depth of water table (10 and 20 cm), (Tanggamus -as control, Cikuray, Ceneng) and ameliorant type (river water, peaty mineral soil water, and high-tide water). These factors were arranged in a Split-plot Design. The results demonstrated that, for growing black soybean, soils with water table depth of 20 cm was better than those of 10 cm, peaty mineral soil water ameliorant was better than river water or high-tide water ameliorant, Ceneng produced higher yield, but not to those of Cikuray. There was no interaction between surface water depth, ameliorant and variety.

[POD BORER ATTACK ON SIX SOYBEAN VARIETIES AND THEIR EFFECTS ON YIELD]. This study aims to determine the level of pod borer attack on six soybean varieties and their effects on yields. This research was conducted from December 2017 to March 2018 in the Experimental Field of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Bengkulu, Kandang Limun Village, Muara Bangkahulu District, Bengkulu City. The experimental design used was a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with the treatment of six soybean varieties (Demas, Argomulyo, Dega, Ringing, Echo, and Dena I) and was repeated 4 times so that there were 24 experimental units. The results showed that the percentage of pod attack on the Demas, Argomulyo, Ringing, Gema, and Dena I varieties was classified as resistant, while the Dega variety was relatively resistant. Whereas the percentage of seed attack in all soybean varieties tested was classified as resistant. Argomulyo varieties have higher resistance to pod borer attack than other varieties because they produce the highest number of trichomes, and the lowest number of larvae per plant. Argomulyo variety produces the highest number of seed weight per plant, and the highest seed weight per plot. The echo variety produces the highest number of total pods, while the Dega variety produces the highest weight of 100 seeds.

[UTILIZATION OF MICROBE TO INCREASE GROWTH AND YIELDS OF SOYBEAN IN COASTAL LAND. This study aims to obtain the right combination of varieties and biofertilizers to increase soybean productivity on Bengkulu coastal land. The research was conducted from March to July 2017, located in Beringin Raya Village, Muara Bangkahulu Sub-District, Bengkulu. The study was conducted with a split-plot design which was repeated three times. The main plot is two soybean varieties (Grobogan and Wilis). The subplots are two types of biological fertilizers, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, and phosphate solvent fungi. The results showed that the results of the seed weight of the Grobogan variety (equivalent to 3.38 tons/ha) were significantly higher than the Wilis variety (equivalent to 2.72 tons/ha). However, the Wilis variety showed an increase in seed weight (equivalent to 1.12 tons/ha) higher than the Grobogan variety (equivalent to 0.61 tons/ha) according to the description of each variety. The combination of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and phosphate solvent fungi showed superior performance than arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi fertilizer or phosphate solvent fungi. The interaction of Grobogan varieties with a combination of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and phosphate solvent fungi produced the highest seed weight (equivalent to 3.52 tons/ha) which was statistically similar to the interaction of Grobogan varieties and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (equivalent to 3.45 tons/ha). The economics of resources using arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi are not required to be combined with phosphate solvent fungi.

Goat manure contains high potassium, thus it is expected to reduce  the usage of synthetic potassium fertilizer. Incubation of goat manure is needed prior to planting since the nutrients are slow release. The objective of the experiment was to find the best time application and dose of potassium on growth and yield of melon. Container experiment using polybags was set in Completely Randomized Design.  Goat manure were incorporated into soil at the time of transplanting (0 DBT), 5 days before transplanting (5 DBT), and 10 DBT. The dose of potassium was consisted of 0 kg/ha, 200 kg/ ha and 400 kg/ha. The treatments were repeated 3 times, each of which consisted of 4 plants. Growth and yield of plants showed no response to the interaction between the two factors of treatment. Single effect of time applicaton of goat manure 10 DBT affected leaf area (1619.51 cm2), fruit weight (872 g), fruit diameter (16.19 cm) and the thickness of edible fruit part (2.61 cm). The dose of potassium 400 kg/ha increased fruit sweetness to 8.20Brix.

Al-stress on soybean causes inhibited root growth. Root length sensitivity index might be an indicator of roots tolerance to Alstress. Hematoxylin staining can be used to visualize the movement of Al in plant root tissues. This study was aimed to determine the tolerance level of soybean genotypes to the gradual Al concentrations. The experiment was conducted from February to April 2014, at the greenhouse in Cikabayan Experiments Garden, IPB, using a 4 x 3 factorial treatments in a completely randomized design, three replications. The first factor was the concentration of Al ie: without Al (A0); 0.5 mM Al (A1); 0.7 mM Al (A2) and 0.9 mM (A3). The second factor was the soybean varieties including: Tanggamus, Cikuray, and Ceneng. The observation of variable included root length sensitivity index based on hematoxylin staining, demonstrating the movement of Al on the tolerance and sensitive varieties. Results showed that: 1) Tanggamus was tolerance at 0.5 mM Al concentration and was moderate at 0.7 and 0.9 mM Al, 2) Cikuray was tolerance to a concentration up to 0.5 mM and was moderate at 0.7 mM Al but was sensitive to the concentration of 0.9 mM Al, 3) Ceneng was sensitive at concentration of 0.5 to 0.9 mM Al, 4) Staining hematoxylin indicated the root tissue advanced damages and darker blue color on the susceptible varieties, in comparison with the tolerant ones.

Kacang tanah merupakan salah satu tanaman pangan penting di Indonesia dan mempunyai peran strategis dalam perekonomian nasional, mengingat fungsinya yang multiguna, sebagai sumber pangan, pakan, dan bahan baku industri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahuai dan mendapatkan dosis pupuk P dan K yang tepat untuk perbaikan tanaman kacang tanah di tanah Ultisol. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Ratu Samban Arga Makmur Kabupaten Bengkulu Utara pada bulan Desember 2018 sampai Maret 2019. Bahan penelitian yang digunakan adalah benih kacang tanah varietas Talam, pupuk organik, pupuk TSP, KCl, Urea dan tanah Ultisol. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok pola faktorial dua faktor. Faktor pertama perlakuan pupuk P berasal dari TSP terdiri atas empat taraf yaitu 3 g tan-1, 4 g tan-1, 5 g tan-1, dan kontrol. Faktor kedua perlakuan pupuk K berasal dari KCl terdiri atas empat taraf yaitu 3 g tan-1, 4 g tan-1, 5 g tan-1, dan kontrol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan TSP 4 g tan-1 menghasilkan komponen vegetatif dan generatif kacang tanah terbaik. Pada perlakuan kalium tidak terdapat perbedaan yang nyata terhadap semua variabel pengamatan, namun terdapat kecenderungan, perlakuan pupuk KCl 4 g tan-1 menghasilkan komponen generatif yang lebih baik. Tidak terdapat interaksi antara phosfor dan kalium yang nyata terhadap semua variabel pengamatan kacang tanah.   Kata kunci : kacang tanah, phosfor, kalium, Ultisol.
