Preference for counselors among a group of elderly persons was investigated for possible effects associated with differences in counselor age and level of facilitative communication. Results suggested that chronological age and maturity affect preferences. It was also indicated that level of communication may be critical, considering the age factor. Perceptions of age and facilitation, as aspects of first-choice counselors obtained from an adjective checklist, were also studied. These data showed that age, and to a lesser degree facilitation, impressed the female subjects. Males appeared more affected by facilitation, indicating that it was the more dominant influence in their first choices.
