O uso de dieta energética para bovinos é uma boa alternativa para atingir maiores ganhos de peso. Sendoassim, o objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a influência da gordura protegida sobre o perfil metabólico sanguíneoe ganho de peso de novilhas da raça nelore. Foram utilizados 150 novilhas nelores distribuídas aleatoriamenteem três grupos experimentais com 50 animais cada, sendo: Grupo 1 - Controle: dieta isonutritivae isoproteica, variando de 1 a 2% do peso vivo, servida uma vez ao dia pelo período da manhã; Grupo 2- Teste: mesma dieta do Grupo 1, acrescida de 100g por animal/dia de gordura protegida a base de óleode palma por um período de 77 dias pela manhã; Grupo 3 - Teste: mesma dieta do Grupo 1, acrescida de100g por animal/dia de gordura protegida a base de óleo de soja por um período de 77 dias pela manhã.No início e ao final do experimento, os animais foram pesados e amostras de sangue foram colhidas paradeterminação dos níveis de glicose, triglicerídeos e ureia sérica. Em relação ao nível de glicose, não se verificoudiferença entre a situação antes e após o tratamento. Os animais do grupo controle apresentarammaior ganho de peso em relação aos grupos tratados. No entanto, os grupos tratados apresentaram maioresníveis de glicose sanguínea. Já o nível de ureia aumentou significativamente (P < 0,05) após o tratamentopara todos os grupos experimentais. No que se refere aos níveis de glicose, ureia e triglicerídeos em funçãodos tratamentos, verificou-se maior nível de glicose (P < 0,05) para os animais do grupo controle em relaçãoaos animais tratados com óleo de palma ou óleo de soja. Por outro lado, não se verificou diferenças nosníveis de ureia e triglicerídeos em função do tratamento com óleo de palma ou óleo de soja. Nas condições em que o experimento foi desenvolvido, o uso de gordura protegida não aumentou o peso e o ganho de pesode novilhas nelores a pasto.
