O crescimento populacional e o processo de urbanização, sem planejamento em infraestrutura urbana, vem acompanhado de inúmeros problemas, principalmente no que se refere às instalações urbanas dos sistemas de água, esgotos sanitários e pluviais, e a inexistência de fiscalização que resulta na ocupação das áreas de risco. Dentre os sistemas instalados, o sistema de esgotamento pluvial compreende conjuntos de medidas que têm como objetivo minimizar os riscos e os prejuízos causados por inundações e possibilitar o desenvolvimento urbano de forma harmônica, articulada e sustentável. Em uma perspectiva mais moderna, os sistemas de drenagem devem ser vistos como um dos componentes do espaço urbano, uma vez que é impossível dissociá-lo da infraestrutura das cidades. O sistema deve ser projetado para compor a paisagem urbana e promover sua valorização de forma bem integrada ao urbanismo. O presente estudo tem objetivo de estudar o impacto do crescimento urbano no sistema de drenagem de uma cidade de pequeno porte do Estado de Santa Catarina. O objeto de estudo abrange a área central de uma municipalidade de 16.684 habitantes, fundada no ano de 1885. A área de estudo contempla uma região de ocupação mista, composta principalmente por residências horizontais e verticais, comércios de pequeno e médio, e está inserida na bacia hidrográfica do Rio Urussanga. O estudo foi realizado em três anos pré-definidos, 1999, 2009 e 2019. Com auxílio de imagens via satélite foi medido o desenvolvimento urbano nestes períodos com base nas taxas de uso e ocupação do solo correlacionadas com os Coeficientes de Escoamento Superficial. Foram então quantificados valores que permitem mensurar os impactos da urbanização num sistema de drenagem tradicional de modo a analisar os agentes de impacto e listar o desenvolvimento do sistema. O processo de urbanização estudado apresentou os resultados esperados, com o passar dos anos a área se desenvolve sem preocupação com as taxas ocupação do solo, apresentando uma redução de área verde na ordem de 36% ao longo dos anos. O sistema de drenagem é sobrecarregado devido a impermeabilização do solo e apresenta uma defasagem imediata a sua concepção, quando não analisado corretamente o cenário de pós urbanização.
