En el presente documento damos a conocer por primera vez a la palmera Manicaria martiana para la flora peruana, proveniente del río Motum, afluente del río Putumayo, en la zona noreste de la Amazonía Peruana (fronteriza con Colombia). Se estudiaron los registros de campo de estas áreas y otras colecciones depositadas en el Herbarium Amazonense (AMAZ) de la Universidad Nacional de la Amazonía Peruana. Con este nuevo reporte y una anterior de Manicaria saccifera Gartner, reportada en 1993, para el Perú se registra la presencia de las dos especies de Manicaria. Para ambas especies, se describen datos de distribución, hábitat, importancia ecológica, uso y manejo que le dan las comunidades de las etnias Muruy y Okaina en el Oriente peruano.
