En una institución educativa de la ciudad de Cali, Colombia, se llevó a cabo una experiencia de clase de matemática con niños de quinto grado de educación básica primaria, apoyada en un Sistema de Geometría Dinámica (Geogebra). La experiencia fue orientada por dos de las coautoras de este artículo, y como parte de los resultados, se presentan en este artículo estrategias para ofrecer soluciones al problema clásico reportado por la literatura en educación matemática: la confusión entre las nociones de área y perímetro (problema A y P). Para ello, se empleó una estrategia investigativa de observación clínica, lo que implicó tres etapas: diagnóstico, mediación en el aula y diseño y aplicación de situaciones problema. Estas etapas, junto con el análisis de resultados, se presentan a lo largo del artículo, para finalmente exponer una reflexión sobre la situación actual de la educación básica primaria en nuestro medio, planteando una propuesta para actuar en consecuencia. Así, la intervención de las profesoras no solo ofrece una aproximación conceptual al problema A y P desde la perspectiva teórica de solución de problemas, sino que aporta elementos en la conformación de los nuevos marcos de referencia que deben soportar las decisiones institucionales sobre educación matemática en nuestro contexto actual. Se señalan aquí tres ejes centrales de discusión: la importancia del estudio de la geometría en la escuela básica, el rol de la tecnología en el aula de clase y la formación matemática de los profesores de primaria.
Este libro, cuyo título es precisamente una de las preguntas de los niños, una de aquellas que quizás nos hicimos cuando teníamos esas edades, nos mostró lo cerca que está la ciencia de cada uno, todas las inquietudes que se tienen sobre la misma y la oportunidad que tenemos si enriquecemos la escuela con espacios que permitan aprovechar dichas preguntas para enseñarles a pensar a nuestros niños, a despertar su curiosidad y a seguir teniendo ideas maravillosas.
A nivel universitario se ha identificado un problema de bajo rendimiento en los cursos de matemática de formación básica para Ciencias e Ingeniería. En la Universidad Icesi se inició un proyecto de investigación con la caracterización del ambiente de aprendizaje en tres cursos de Álgebra y Funciones. Se formularon categorías de análisis para cuatro dimensiones constitutivas de un ambiente de aprendizaje y se hicieron observaciones centradas en el tema de funciones. En el momento de inicio del proyecto los cursos son presenciales. Las conclusiones sobre las categorías de análisis planteadas señalan la importancia de las condiciones físicas del espacio de interacción (aula de clase) y el efecto negativo, sobre la reflexividad del profesor, que tiene la premura por cubrir un programa estructurado por contenidos. En el artículo se plantean algunos referentes teóricos desde los cuales se pueden proponer soluciones viables al problema de bajo rendimiento, atendiendo a las características contextualizadas de los ambientes de aprendizaje. La socialización del resultado del estudio se constituyó en uno de los factores que impulsó la actual reforma del curso de Álgebra y Funciones, cuyo desarrollo y seguimiento ha sido impactado por la necesidad de migrar a ambientes virtuales durante la pandemia en el año 2020.
