The author gives enough introduction of the development of the Pentecostal movement in the history of the Christian Church. The movement of the Pentecostalism was an unique development because the Holy Spirit is believed as the inisiator of the movement. Therefore, the Pentecostal churches really depends on the work of the Holy Spirit (without separated from the work of the work of God the Father and Jesus Christ). Furthermore, this article describes the development of the Pentacostal movement, especially in Indonesian context and observes the unique and positive things of the Pentacostalism, its doctrine and dangerous teachings, especially in Indonesian context. The author believes that Pentecostalism will be the face of Christianity in the future.
Linguistic anthropology or ethnolinguistics is a branch of anthropology with language in use or speech as it’s object of study. In another way it is the study of a language as a cultural resource and speaking as a cultural practice. This science with such a definition can be traced back to the Sapir and Whorf hypothesis, concerning with theory of linguistic relativity and theory of linguistic determinism. It is a matter of conceptual world based on perception or more specific a representation of reality (real world). Linguistic anthropology with such a focus of study no need to be done only in primitive society but in modern society as well and in internal language since there are many sub-societies in a language society. The method in this study is what is called thick description that must be carried out using grounded research. The issues and topics that are at the core of this research such as the politics of representation, the legitimation of power, the cultural basis of racism and ethnic conflict, the relationship between ritual performance and the forms of social control, speech in ceremonies, ritual, meeting, and so on.
There is no expression Damai Sejahtera in Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia. In this dictionary we can find the meaning of damai and the meaning of sejahtera. That proves that DS is not a word but a phrase. In fact DS is not difference with damai dan sejahtera. The phrase that found in the Bible (John 14, verse 27) and commonly used among Indonesian Christians get its equivalent peace in English Bible and tentrem rahayu in Javanese Bible. Peace that commonly translated damai in Indonesian si not true in Indonesian Bible. Damai Sejahtera discussed in this article got its original concept from ancient Christian society not from English. That must be the reason. Budhism use the word bahagia meaning spiritual bliss with a special meaning which is not exactly the same with that that is used among Christian. So beside its common meaning used and known by all Indonesian people, speakers of bahasa Indonesia, DS also has specific meanings among Indonesian subculture like Budhis community, Muslim community, Christian community, etc.
Semansitcs is the study of meaning communicated through language. In the past time semantics was the study of meaning of words and sentences. Aboves sentence level which is known as text was never considered as linguistic semantics’ objek of study. Semantics which is a branch of structural linguistics only focused it’s attention on phones, morphemes, words, clauses, and sentences: substansive matters of language. Texts belong to speech or language system in use. The study of meaning in this area is called pragmatics or discourse analysis.Up to this time linguistics or semantics has been used as an instrument in interpreting the Holy Texts of many religions. In that period the Holy Texts interpretation activity was limited only on lexical and grammatical meaning. Today people are aware, that based on the theory of discourse analysis, texts should be considered as parts of discourse. To get the meaning of the texts significantly people must find the context, but this is the problems, that reconstructing the context of the text in its’origin is a never ending works. Since Holy Text interpretation is a kind of activity closed to mission of imposible, this should teaches us to be low hearted and tolerant to others
Whatever the purpose, people talk or write, want to be noticed by P2. There are many ways to come into that goal, one among the others, is by trying to make his or her utterance amusing. Polite utterance makes others happy. Religion teaching on polite-ness or religion leader’s (language) etiquette tend to become the sourse of patterns to follow. In the other hand, every language/culture society also has theirown rules of that language propriety. Then, it become interesting to search that kind of culture contact. This article trys to find out a set of possible principles based on that kind of contact between Christian etiquette and Indonesian language etiquette. It is hoped that the results can be used to determine the degree of politeness of Umat Allah.
