No presente trabalho, um estudo de propagação de ondas e detecção de imperfeições estruturais em uma barra elementar é feito usando o Método dos Elementos Espectrais usando Wavelets (Wavelet Spectral Finite Element Method -WSFEM). Primeiramente foram calculados os valores exatos dos coeficientes de conexões para as wavelets do tipo Daubechies, usando para isso a propriedade de suporte compacto que elas possuem. A equação de onda foi transformada do domínio do tempo para o domínio wavelet. Foi feita a desacoplagem das equações diferenciais ordinárias através de uma análise de autovalores e autovetores. O método WSFEM é muito semelhante ao método do elementos finitos espectrais (Spectral Element Method -SEM), que usa como base a transformada de Fourier, exceto que ele usa wavelets do tipo Daubechies com suporte compacto. As equações de onda são reduzidas a equações diferenciais ordinárias usando as wavelets de Daubechies, que são ortonormais. Ao contrário da formulação SEM com suposição de periodicidade, o método baseado em wavelets permite imposição de valores iniciais e, portanto, está livre de problemas do tipo "wrap around". Experimentos numéricos são realizados para extrair as características das ondas, isto é, a relação de dispersão e os espectros para o guia de onda unidimensional analisado. Foi feita a deteção das imperfeições estruturais para os dois métodos SEM e WSFEM, onde foi feita a modelagem do elemento estrutural junto com um elemento semi-infinito. Os resultados são comparados com os da literatura.
