This article aims at demonstrating the ability of the map to reactivate classical life storytelling, under certain conditions of graphic shaping and, above all, of collection and constitution of required information as well as conditions of use. In doing this, life storytelling can become a real tool to understand the affective relation to urban places instead of being the smooth, conventional narrative of facts consciously chosen by the person interviewed. Indeed, the use of this type of map allows us to complete the strictly rational and rationalizing dimension of discourse, by surpassing the formal and artificial coherence of telling and highlighting the affective dimensions of the relation to space. From then on, the map plays the role of Winnicott's "transitional object". The map emerges as a tool that communicates, and moreover, encourages communication about aspects which are generally omitted because they are personal, even intimate. This is innovative in cartography as well as in psychoanalysis and sociology. The authors propose first a critical presentation of life storytelling, and then a spatialized life storytelling of urban living individuals and the resulting map, with the aim of showing this new use of the map as an efficient means of reactivating life storytelling in link with the value of urban places.
