The person’s physical and mental health is a topical issue nowadays, as often it is believed that all the responsibility for person’s health must be in the hands of the state health care institutions. Educating society on health issues in various levels is very perspective, especially important it is at the educational establishments. If the education on health related issues is continuously taking place in comprehensive educational establishments, insufficient attention is paid to it in the higher educational establishments. The aim of the research is to define the correlations between the functional state of the organism, body composition and health assessment of students of Liepaja University and Riga Stradins University Liepaja Branch. The research results proved that the correlation between the students` functional condition of organism, body composition and health self- assessment can be evaluated as weak. A significant correlation between the students' functional condition of organism and body composition was not found.
Athletes' success in sports is linked not only to good physical, technical and tactical preparedness, but also to psychological fitness. In sports psychology there are two basic types of psychological preparation, namely general psychological preparation and special psychological preparation. Just as comprehensive physical preparation is the basis for an athlete's special, technical, tactical fitness, so comprehensive psychological preparation is the basis for an athlete's mental toughness both during the training and competing. Regardless of the stressors, the athletes with higher levels of mental toughness can overcome more easily the negative effects of stress. In order to gain mental toughness skills, it is necessary to develop basic psychological skills at the same time as starting sports activities, and this process should continue in parallel with the entire training process. The aim of the study: to explore the intervention benefits of autogenous training (AT) techniques for improving the psychological skills of young women volleyball players. Research method: a survey was employed for obtaining the athletes' feedback. Results: Statistically significant changes were found in the self-assessment of athletes' well-being after autogenous training. The self-assessment results show that athletes reach different AT acquisition levels as the result of a two-month AT intervention: 7.7% of athletes do not have difficulty with AT techniques, for 30.8% AT come easy, but not always, 53.8% of athletes sometimes manage to feel warmth in different parts of the body, relax, concentrate, focus attention on breathing and repetition of the target formulas, but for 7.7% of athletes the acquisition results of AT techniques are poor.
This study compares lifestyles behaviour in Italian and Latvian university students, to assess if there are differences for sex, age, university or studies specialties. An online questionnaire investigating 8 lifestyle dimensions has been compiled by 156 (43,6 % females) from Italy and 105 from Latvia (82,9% females). Answers were collected between April and December 2020. Presence of smokers are negligible. The questionnaire showed to have a good internal consistency (Cronbach α =.929). On the total group, significant statistically differences were found for all the dimensions regarding age, sex, study specialty and university. Physical activity was associated with healthier lifestyles choices. Geographical-induced differences were found (eating and sleep behaviours, alcohol awareness) as well as socio-economic differences. Female students shown to be more stressed than males. Occupational wellness increased by age. Sport students shown more health awareness. Many of the differences found in the total group disappeared when comparing only sport students of the two university, showing females increasing their scores. This result can be explained by a masculinization effect of sport.
This publication analyses and discusses the aspects of healthy lifestyle implementation competence in the personal life of students and future teachers, viewing it as a potential contribution to their professional career. The correlation of internal factors such as students' attitudes, knowledge, skills and abilities and influence of external factors of social environment are analysed as healthy lifestyle competence. The empirical study focuses on two priority healthy lifestyle components –physical activity and the development of healthy eating habits in relation to the conditions provided by a higher education microsystem formulating a proposal for improving the interaction of these factors. For achieving the research goal, emerging teachers have been surveyed using the methodology developed by Corbin et al. (2008). For statistical analysis of the research data, the SPSS 22.0 program was employed: a method of descriptive statistics, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Kendall's tau-b correlation test. The results of this study prove the differences in competence indicators in relation to the respondents’ age and chosen specialization, as well as show the lack of support from professional management and medical staff for implementation of a healthy lifestyle.
