In a few small shops of the bazar of Chitral (West-Pakistan) rosered, well crystallized, monoclinic crystals of gem quality were aquired by the second author. Mineralogical investigations proved the identity with väyrynenite, BeMn(PC>4) (OH). Previously, only one occurrence of this mineral from a pegmatite vein of Viitaniemi (Finland) with poorly developed crystals has been reported. Two-circle goniometer-measurement results, habit and a series of so far unknown forms are described; no corrections of the x-ray axial ratio, calculated by MROSE and VON KNOBBING, seem to be necessary. A table of crystal angles was compiled. Chemical composition, specific gravity, d values and optical constants are in good agreement with those published from the Finnish material. In disagreement with the data are the inclined extinction and the considerable pleochroism of the Pakistani crystals. The exact locality could not be detected. Most probably, either recently explored Li pegmatites of Chitral or similar ones across the border in Afghanistan are the most possible source for the väyrynenite.
