Die im 12-stdg. Wechsel von Licht und Dunkelheit kultivierte Alge Hydrodictyon zeigt eine ausgeprägte Periodik in Wachstum, Photosynthese und Dunkelatmung. Diese ist in simultanen Versuchsreihen vermessen worden. Die Periodik äußert sich audi im Auftreten von Nachsdiwingungen des Wachstums und Stoffwechsels bei Übergang zu konstanten Bedingungen (Dauerlicht oder Dauerverdunklung). Die Nadisdiwingungen von Wachstum und Photosynthese sind gegenüber denjenigen der Atmung um etwa 12 Stdn. verschoben.Die Alge läßt sich auch auf andere Licht-Dunkel-Wechsel umstellen. Besonders untersucht wurden die Wechsel 6 : 6 und IOV2: 7. Die Phasenlage der induzierten Periodik bleibt wäh-rend der Nachschwingungen in allen untersuchten Fällen deutlich erhalten.Es wird die Frage erörtert, ob die beobachteten Periodizitäten von einer endogenen Rhythmik gesteuert werden. Die bisherigen Befunde sprechen mehr für eine Anregung und Steuerung durch die Periodik der Außenbedingungen.
