The synthesis of cis-9,1O-dihydroxy-3,4,9,1O-tetrahydrophenanthren-l-(2H)-one (2a) was chosen as example to demonstrate that the reaction of oxanorbornadienes of the type 1 with water also leads to sensitive diols with two secondary hydroxy groups. Reactions of 2a and of the corresponding methoxyol2b are described. B. 2a, CH, statt H an C-9),) dargestellt worden. *) Korrespondenz bitte an diesen Autor richten. **) Herrn Prof. Dr. Huns Plieninger rnit allen guten Wunschen zum 65. Geburtstag gewidmet.
