A new PVC membrane electrode for HSO 3 À anion based on bis-urea calix[4]diquinones I ± VI as neutral ionophores is prepared. Of the various membranes prepared, the membrane based on calix[4]diquinone III exhibits a linear stable response over a wide concentration range (6.0 Â 10 À5 À 1.0 Â 10
À2) with a slope of À 51.5 mV/decade and a detection limit of 2.2 Â 10 À6 M. With the exception of HSO 3 À anion, the remainder of the anions responds based on their hydrophobicity. The membrane revealed improved selectivity coefficients for HSO 3 À over a wide variety of other anions, and the comparable selectivity for the HSO 3 À selective membranes is iodide anion.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
