Este artículo presenta los resultados de un componente de una investigación doctoral que estimó el efecto de un programa de preparación para el ingreso a la universidad llevado a cabo por una universidad pública en Colombia. Específicamente, el texto destaca la relación entre las características personales, socioeconómicas y académicas de los participantes, las acciones del programa en las cuales participaron y sus posibilidades ingreso a la educación superior. Mediante un análisis observacional de fuentes de información secundarias se estructuró y estandarizó una muestra de 20.708 participantes del programa que se inscribieron a la universidad entre el año 2015 y 2019; las variables de interés se midieron una única vez. Los resultados derivaron de un análisis de frecuencia de variables definidas en la investigación y del establecimiento de las posibles asociaciones entre las variables de resultado con las independientes. Los resultados revelaron que las características de los participantes, salvo la ubicación geográfica de la institución educativa, tienen una asociación estadísticamente significativa con la aprobación del examen de admisión. Ser hombre, menor de 18 años, proceder de zonas urbanas de estrato tres y cuatro, haber estudiado en instituciones de carácter académico, y tomar cursos independientes de lectoescritura, matemáticas y física, mejoran la posibilidad de ingreso a la universidad. Finalmente, se discute el aporte del componente de caracterización estudiantil en los programas de preparación para la universidad orientados a promover un acceso equitativo a la educación
Este artículo destaca los principales aspectos de una revisión sistemática de artículos publicados en revistas indexadas que evaluaron el efecto de intervenciones orientadas hacia la preparación de estudiantes para ingresar y cursar de manera exitosa programas de educación superior universitaria. Los textos revisados fueron encontrados en bases de datos bibliográficas mediante el marco conceptual formulado por Conley. La revisión revela la frecuencia de las intervenciones dirigidas a fortalecer contenidos académicos. Estas inciden positivamente en la mejora de los promedios durante el bachillerato, el ingreso, el desempeño y la graduación en la educación superior. Los cursos universitarios integrados al currículo del bachillerato se destacan como una de las intervenciones más potentes para promover el conocimiento de la universidad, fortalecer estrategias cognitivas y comportamientos académicos de los estudiantes, y mejorar sus percepciones y expectativas de ingreso al mundo universitario, tanto como su motivación, autoconfianza y persistencia de participación en él. La comparación de las políticas públicas que sustentan programas afines desarrollados en Latinoamérica destaca la evaluación de las intervenciones de preparación para la universidad como una labor pendiente para sustentar y mejorar la toma de decisiones en la política de educación superior universitaria.
