The genus Spathiphyllum is represented in Mexico by 11 species, four of which are registered for the state of Veracruz. As a result of the revision of material collected in Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz, in addition to a detailed review of herbarium specimens, and comparison to individuals collected at and the type locality of Spathiphyllum cochlearispathum, we determined that the Spathiphyllum species identified as S. cochlearispathum in the Gulf of Mexico corresponds to a different species, not previously designated. The new species, Spathiphyllum croatii, is described taxonomically, illustrated, and compared with S. cochlearispathum.

A new rainforest species of Magnolia , from the eastern Selva Zoque of Chiapas, Mexico, is described and illustrated. Magnolia perezfarrerae belongs to section Talauma , subsection Talauma . It differs from M . equatorialis in having shorter leaf blades that are elliptic rather than lanceolate, longer petioles, and much shorter apices of the carpels. Unlike any published Mexican species of subsection Talauma , this new species presents a circumcissile dehiscence with abaxial portions of carpels detaching in large irregular and united many-carpelled masses, a trait shared with several Amazonian Magnolia . The flowers are used and valued by the Zoque culture for medicinal purposes.

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Se realizó el inventario florístico del Parque Nacional Palenque, Chiapas, México. Se realizaron colectas botánicas durante el año 2008 y revisaron bases de datos de herbario. Se registraron 484 especies, 319 géneros y 100 familias. Las familias más representativas corresponde a Fabaceae (31 géneros y 38 especies) y Rubiaceae (18 géneros y 29 especies). Los géneros más diversos fueron <em>Psychotria </em>con diez especies, <em>Ficus </em>y <em>Piper </em>con ocho especies. Se registraron cuatro especies endémicas a Chiapas, 12 especies incluidas en alguna categoría de riesgo en la NOM- ECOL.-059- 2010 y nueve especies registradas en la Lista Roja de la Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza. La riqueza florística registrada, y los elementos de distribución restringida y bajo estatus de conservación, hacen evidente la importancia de la conservación del Parque Nacional Palenque.</span></p>

A new species of Magnolia, from the Lagunas de Montebello National Park, in the central highlands of Chiapas, Mexico, is described and illustrated. Magnolia montebelloensis belongs to section Magnolia; it differs from M. poasana in its smaller habit, densely pubescent terminal twig internodes, stipules and spathaceous bracts, shorter peduncular internodes and more numerous stamens. A key, an ecological and a conservation assessment of the eight Chiapan species of Magnoliaceae are included. Magnolia montebelloensis grows in montane rain forest and is contrasted with other Chiapan Magnolia species regarding their climate and vegetation preferences. It was assessed as critically endangered (CR) according to IUCN B1ab(ii, iii) and B2ab(iii) criteria. Half of Magnolia species in Chiapas occur in protected natural areas, and thus immediate action is required to protect the other four species, M. faustinomirandae, M. mayae, M. sharpii and M. zamudioi. Seven out of the eight Magnolia species (88%) are not found in ex-situ collections despite being endangered or critically endangered. Key words: Magnolia guatemalensis, Magnolia hondurensis, Magnolia poasana, "Tajchack" (Tzeltal language) ResumenSe describe e ilustra una nueva especie de Magnolia del Parque Nacional Lagunas de Montebello, de la Altiplanicie o Macizo Central de Chiapas, México. Magnolia montebelloensis pertenece a la sección Magnolia; difiere de M. poasana por su hábito de menor tamaño, entrenudos distales, estípulas y brácteas espatáceas densamente pubescentes, entrenudos pedunculares más cortos y mayor número de estambres. Se incluye una clave, una evaluación ecológica y de conservación para las ocho especies de Magnoliaceae de Chiapas. Magnolia montebelloensis crece en bosque mesófilo de montaña y se compara con otras especies de Magnolia de Chiapas según sus preferencias de vegetación y clima. Fue evaluada como en peligro crítico (CR) según los criterios B1ab(ii,iii) y B2ab(iii) de la UICN. La mitad de las especies de Magnolia de Chiapas se encuentran en áreas naturales protegidas, por lo que se sugiere acción inmediata para proteger las cuatro especies restantes, M. faustinomirandae, M. mayae, M. sharpii y M. zamudioi. Siete de las ocho especies de Magnolia (88%) no se encuentran en colecciones ex situ a pesar de estar en peligro o en peligro crítico.

Amphitecna loreae Ortiz-Rodr. & Burelo, sp. nov. (Bignoniaceae), a new species endemic to the karst rainforest in southern Mexico, is described and illustrated. The new species differs from the other species of Amphitecna by the combination of cauliflorous inflorescences, larger flowers, buds rounded at apex, and globose-ellipsoid rather than acuminate fruits. A key to the Mexican species of Amphitecna is presented.

Anthurium is represented in Mexico by 57 taxa (47 species and 10 infraspecific taxa), seven of which are endemic to the state of Oaxaca. During fieldwork in 2019 in the Ejido La Luz, Ixtlán de Juárez, Oaxaca, we discovered two undescribed terrestrial species belonging to Anthurium sect. Andiphilum from Mexico. Anthurium ixtlanense and A. luzense, are taxonomically described and illustrated.

Mexico has a rich woody bamboo flora with over 52 species, 66% of which are endemic. Mexico represents the northernmost extent for many Neotropical bamboo genera such as the widespread Rhipidocladum, a genus with characteristic fanlike branching and variable synflorescence morphologies. Only four species of Rhipidocladum are known from Mexico: R. bartlettii, R. martinezii, R. pittieri and R. racemiflorum. Remarkably, the ranges of all four species overlap in the Mexican state of Chiapas. During field work in Chiapas, a flowering population of Rhipidocladum was discovered that had two glumes and retrorsely scabrous abaxial leaf surfaces, and lacked foliage leaf fimbriae. This combination of characters is unlike that of any known species in the genus. We conducted a comprehensive morphological study of specimens from this population and confirmed the existence of a new species of Rhipidocladum. We describe and illustrate the new taxon, discuss its diagnostic characters and provide an updated key to the species of Rhipidocladum distributed in Mexico. This taxonomic novelty increases the richness of the genus to 20 species and adds a new endemic woody bamboo to the flora of Mexico. The new species inhabits montane cloud forest, an important yet threatened vegetation type in Mexico.

No abstract
