ResumoO presente trabalho é um estudo preliminar a respeito do efeito dos voláteis na combustibilidade etambém visa identificar a influência do tamanho de partícula na variação da pressão durante a combustão no Simulador de PCI. Foram estudados um carvão alto, um baixo volátil e misturas desses carvões.A avaliação do efeito dos voláteis se deu a partir da medida da variação de pressão no reator ocasionada pela combustão e pelo cálculo do burnoutdos chars coletados após o ensaio. A análise do efeito do tamanho de partícula sobre a variação da pressão durante a combustão se deu através da combustão do carvão baixo volátil em diferentes faixas granulométricas. Os resultados mostraram que o carvão alto volátil apresentou a maior combustibilidade e que quanto maior o teor desses carvões na mistura, maior foi a combustibilidade da mistura. O Simulador de PCI separou satisfatoriamente, através dos perfis de pressão, o comportamento durante a combustão de carvões com diferentes teores de voláteis, suas misturas e variadas faixas granulométricas. A relação entre a variação da pressão e a combustibilidade dos carvões e suas misturas ainda precisa ser mais exploradas. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar o efeito das diferentes propriedades químicas, físicas e petrográficas de carvões minerais sobre suas performances na injeção em altos-fornos através de ensaios de combustão utilizando um Simulador PCI (Pulverized Coal Injection). No trabalho foram utilizados um carvão betuminoso alto-volátil, três betuminosos baixo-voláteis, tipicamente usados em PCI, e um antracito. O comportamento dos carvões após a sua passagem pelo simulador indicou um aumento do burnout com o aumento do teor de voláteis dos carvões. A análise destes comportamentos indicou que no simulador de PCI o papel do teor de voláteis diminuiu com o aumento do rank do carvão. O carvão alto-volátil apresentou o maior burnout, em contrapartida o antracito apresentou o menor. Os carvões baixo voláteis apresentaram performances intermediárias e, em razão da similaridade dos seus ranks, o teor de voláteis não foi suficiente para explicar os seus comportamentos, de maneira que a análise das propriedades físicas e petrográficas permitiu explicar as diferenças entre os seus burnouts médios. A associação das análises das propriedades dos carvões com o ensaio de combustão no simulador demonstrou a sua capacidade em distinguir quantitativamente e qualitativamente as performances de carvões para injeção.
ResumoEste trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a combustibilidade de misturas carvão nacional, do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, para injeção em altos-fornos. O estudo foi realizado através de ensaios de combustão no simulador de PCI do Laboratório de Siderurgia da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (LaSid/UFRGS). Os carvões empregados foram carvão nacional, carvões importados e misturas destes tendo o baixo volátil importado como base. Os resultados mostraram que a combustibilidade medida pelo burnout foi proporcional ao teor de matéria volátil. Foi verificado efeito sinérgico nas misturas, onde o carvão alto volátil (CC) exerceu uma maior interação com o carvão base baixo volátil (CA) do que o carvão brasileiro (CB). Uma adição de 10% de CC proporcionou uma eficiência de combustão na mistura CA:CC superior a uma adição de até 30% de CB na mistura CA:CB. A partir de 30% de CC e 50% de CB não houve variação significativa nas eficiências de combustão em relação aos carvões individuais CC e CB.
