The frequencies of the genes ADA1 and ADA2 in Norwegian Lapps were found to be 0.8483 and 0.1517, respectively. The ADA2 frequency in this population is among the highest in the world. A high frequency of ADA2 was found by previous workers in Swedish and Finnish Lapps. We conclude that a high frequency of ADA2 is a racial characteristic of the Lapps. In Non-Lappish Norwegians, the frequencies of ADA1 and ADA2 were found to be 0.9502 and 0.0498, respectively. Thus, the difference in distribution between Lappish and Non-Lappish Norwegians is highly significant.
The frequencies of the genes Pa, Pb, and Pc in a sample of Norwegian Lapps were found to be 0.438, 0.543 and 0.019, respectively. The observation of a high frequency of the Pa gene is in agreement with data reported by Beckman et al. [1971] for Swedish Lapps.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
