The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of self-care behavior and associated factors among heart failure patients. This institutional-based cross-sectional study design was done in Tigray region, Ethiopia. The data collection process was made between February and April 2018. An interviewer assisted structured questionnaire and medical chart review was used to collect the data. Data was entered and analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) version 22. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression were conducted to identify the predictors ( p < .05). In this study, a total of 408 study subjects was included. The mean age of the participants was 45.4 (±19). The overall prevalence of good self-care behavior was 45.8% (95% CI: 40.9–50.5). Regression analysis revealed that age, educational level, co-morbidity, knowledge about heart failure, and social support were significantly associated with self-care behavior. Healthcare providers should strengthen patient education to improve self-care behavior.
Background Dental service utilization is important for maintaining and enhancing children’s oral health status. However, there is paucity of information regarding dental service utilization and factors affecting it among school aged children in Ethiopia. Objectives The purpose of this study was to determine the dental service utilization and associated factors among school aged children (6–15) years in Mekelle city, Northern Ethiopia. Methods A school-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Mekelle city of Northern Ethiopia from January 2016 to June 2016. A multi-stage sampling method was used to select 405 school children. A modified World Health Organization oral health assessment form for children was used to collect data. Univariate and multivariable logistic regressions with 95% CI were used to test the association between past-year dental service utilization, as an outcome variable, and parental socio-demographic, and child characteristics as independent variables. Results A total of 398 school children participated in the study. The overall dental service utilization among these children was (10.6%), 95% Confidence Interval (CI) (7.5%, 13.6%). In multivariable logistic regression analysis, maternal educational status (illiterate versus college and above (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) 0.13, 95% CI 0.01, 0.93)), higher monthly income (AOR 11.69, 95% CI 1.19, 114.61)), and having dental pain (AOR 50.8, 95% CI 17.8, 145.17)) were significantly associated with past year dental service utilization. Conclusion Our findings showed that a small proportion of the study population visited a dentist in the past year. Maternal educational status, monthly income, and dental pain were associated with past year dental service utilization. Oral health education programs focusing on dental service utilization targeting school children are crucial.
The urology match remains highly competitive, but there is limited analysis of how the characteristics of the Urology match have changed over the past decade. This study aims to examine the National Urology Match and match trends from 2006-2021.METHODS: Match Statistics through 2006-2021 were obtained from American Urological Association and analyzed by year. Match data were analyzed for trends of application numbers, available positions, applicant demographics, and match rates from 2006-2021.RESULTS: 6,397 applicants submitted rank lists to the AUA match from 2006 to 2021. Applications steadily rose over the years with a 37% increase in overall applications. Available positions increased 52% (235 to 357) during the same time period. Of the 6,397 applicants, 4,605 successfully matched (72%). Match rates hovered between 60.9% to 79.1% until 2019, which peaked at a record 85% of all applicants matched. The mean number of programs applied to per applicant steadily increased on average 2 per year (39.5 to 77) while applications received by program rose from 148.9 to 282 over this time frame. Female applicants have steadily increased per year from 74 to 144 with a corresponding increase in match rate. Number of Non-senior US MD applicants has dramatically increased in the last 5 years peaking at 79 in 2019.CONCLUSIONS: The Urology match has remained competitive over the study timeframe with an average match rate of 72%. The 2019 match rate was 85%, the highest ever in the past 2 decades. To ensure a spot, applicants are applying to a greater number of programs and attending more interviews. This is likely due to a factor of increased spots available and a recent surge in applicants. Applicant demographics show an increase in number of female and Non-Senior USMD applicants. Underrepresented minority status is not tracked though it should be included in the future. As we face a projected shortage of Urologists in the future, increasing training opportunities for qualified applicants should continue as the demand for urologists grows.
