We give some new methods for the constructive search for amicable number pairs. Our numerical experiments using these methods produced a total of 3501 new amicable pairs of a very special form. They provide some experimental evidence for the infinity of such pairs.

A. Hoffmann, Neues uber Fermentpilee. 301 wozu uns in unserem Wohnungsorte Gelegenheit mangelt. Als Elementarzusammensetzung ergab sich : 63,44°/0 C., 10,40 o/o H. Herr Xonig bemerkt noch Folgendes : Nach Kochen des Stoffes rnit verdiinnter SOs gehen 33 bis 38 o/o in Zucker uber, so dass man an einen Bitterstoff (Glucosid) denken wiirde. Nun aber zieht auch Wasser beim Erwarmen Zucker aus, nemfich 15,5 Ole. Es scheint daher, dass die Substanz entweder ein Gemisch von Zucker mit einem andern Korper, vielleicht Bitterstoff, ist , oder letztarer nur allein; derselbe wurde dann leicht sogar mit Wasser und SO3 in Zucker und einen anderen Stoff gespalten. Letzterer (der Riickstand von der SOs -Kochung) ist schon krystallinisch (Blattchen) mit folgender Elementarzusammensetziing : Bei 210° braunt sich der Korper ohne zu schmelzen. 68,83°/0 C. und 11,97 o/o H. LXXVII) greift ihn T r e c u l an, indem er nachzuweisen sucht, wie sich P. fortwahrend mehr und mehr in Widerspriiche verwickele, und sucht zu beweisen, dass die von P. neuerdings introducirte angebliche ,, spontane (( Hefe in der Bierwurze nicht existire. Indem P. sich gegen die Mutabilitat der Hefe wahrt, da diese seine Theorie von den ,, specifischen" Fermenten umsturzen wiirde , erfindet er die spontane Hefe, in Anbetracht des Auftretens von wirklicher H e f e beim Untersenken von Nycoderma vini und cerevkiae 302 (Kahm), also anderer Pilze, in der Wurze. Nach T. dagegen ist Mycoderma cerevisiae nichts weiter , als eine Form von Penicillium mit kurzen Gliedern. P. gebe jetzt auch zu, dass das Buttersaure -Ferment nicht getodtet werde durch Luftzutritt , sondern bloss unwirksam und unbeweglich werde , wonach also seine fruhere Unterscheidung von ferments aerobieu (azymische) und anaerobies (zymische) hinfiillig werde.Pasteur antwortet hierauf (Nr. 24. p. 1396), dass ihn T. nicht verstehe oder nicht verstehen wolle. T. glaube irriger Weise, dass Bacterien durch generatio spontanea (Heterogenie) entstehen, und dass diese sich zuletzt zu Mycoderma vini und Penicillium entwickeln konnen. Nach P. entwickeln sich vollig rein gezuchtete Sporen von Penicillium in Bierwiirze nicht zu Hefe. Er zeigt ein Elaschchen vor, welches A. Hoffmann, Naues uber Fermentpilze. A.
