PurposeOrganizations try to appoint individuals who fit in with their values and goals. Employees who do not fit in with the organization's core values and goals prefer not to stay on for a longer period of time. The present study is an attempt to explore the impact of person–job (P–J) fit on organizational commitment through job involvement and career commitment with an application of a serial multiple mediation model.Design/methodology/approachData have been collected through a structured questionnaire. The population comprised the teachers, working in the higher education sector. The different constructs used have been duly validated with the help of exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. Further data reliability and scale validity have been checked too. In order to test the serial multiple mediation model, the authors adopted a regression-based approach and bootstrapping method suggested by Hayes (2012; 2013). Accordingly, PROCESS developed by Hayes (2012) has been used.FindingsThe results revealed that job involvement and career commitment mediate the relationship between P–J fit and organizational commitment individually as well as together.Research limitations/implicationsThe present study is confined to government degree colleges only. The element of subjectivity might not have been checked completely as teachers have responded on the basis of their own experience and perceptions regarding the items in the questionnaire. The study is cross sectional in nature.Practical implicationsThe paper addresses the interest of wide spectrum of stakeholders including the management, organizations and employees. So, the authors have extended general implications, which are for all those organizations that want to improve person–organization (P–O) fit and commitment of their employees. These implications will help organizations to take specific initiatives to improve the P–J fit of their employees, which will subsequently enhance their commitment level.Originality/valueThe findings of the present study will help the stakeholders in the higher education sector to identify best employees and undertake the initiatives to generate better job involvement and commitment, which will be a win–win strategy for both (employees as well as the organizations).
The present investigation was carried out with the objective to develop value added products and to assess the quality parameters of osmo air dried peach slices. The peach slices were dried by osmo air drying method. Dehydrated peach (Prunus persica (L) Batsch.) slices prepared were stored under ambient conditions in polythenepacks and subjected to physico-chemical analysis at 45 days interval for a period of 135 days. The highest total sugars were observed in Flordasun 58.28 % and reducing sugars (39.35 %) in Shan-e-Punjab. The maximum acidity (1.84 %) in Shan-e-Punjab, ash content (4.43 %) in Early Grand were recorded. The maximum ascorbic acid content of 11.94 mg/100g was found in Shan-e-Punjab. During storage, an increasing trend was observed in total sugars (54.27-56.76%) and reducing sugars (38.08-39.38%), whereas, acidity (1.85-1.74), ascorbic acid (11.75-9.81mg/100g) , and ash content showed decreasing trend. It is thus concluded that Early Grand, Flordasun and Shan-e-Punjab, cultivars of peach can be suitably used for preparation of dehydrated peach product using osmo air drying methods.
Nanotechnology is an enable technology that has the potential to revolutionize agriculture and food systems. Food nanotechnology is an area of emerging interest and opens up a whole universe of new possibilities for the food industry. The basic categories of nanotechnology applications and functionalities currently in the development of food packaging include: the improvement of plastic materials barriers, the incorporation of active components that can deliver functional attributes beyond those of conventional active packaging, and the sensing and signaling of relevant information. Nano food packaging materials may extend food life, improve food safety, alert consumers that food is contaminated or spoiled, repair tears in packaging, and even release preservatives to extend the life of the food in the package. Nanotechnology applications in the food industry can be utilized to detect bacteria in packaging, or produce stronger flavors and color quality, and safety by increasing the barrier properties. Nanotechnology holds great promise to provide benefits not just within food products but also around food products. In fact, nanotechnology introduces new chances for innovation in the food industry at immense speed, but uncertainty and health concerns are also emerging.
Background: An accredited social health activist (ASHA) is a community health worker instituted by the Govt. of India as a part of National Rural Health Mission. ASHA is a trained female community health activist selected from the same village meant to serve as a key communication mechanism between health care system and rural population. Methods: To evaluate the knowledge of ASHA workers on Antenatal care. This study was conducted at Basohli Block of Kathua Distt (J&K) over 1 year. Information regarding antenatal care was collected from ASHA by interview techniques. Results: Out of 92 ASHA workers 89(96.73%) believe in early registration of pregnant women to a nearby sub centre / PHC/ CHC before the third month of pregnancy. 84.78% believe in minimum of four antenatal visits. All the ASHA workers 92(100%) were aware of two doses of injection tetanus toxide to be given to all the antenatal mothers but they were not aware of the dosage and schedule. Only 22 ASHA's were aware of screening of HIV/HBsAg during pregnancy. All the ASHA workers were aware of Iron& Folic tablets to be consumed by all the antenatal mothers. Most of ASHA workers were lacking knowledge about dangerous sign of pregnancy. Most commonly known dangerous sign was vaginal bleeding cited by 67.39%. Other dangerous sign cited by ASHA workers were decreased fetal movements, convulsion and swelling feet. Conclusions: It is evident from present study that majority of ASHA workers have good knowledge about antenatal care. Their knowledge on certain aspect of antenatal care was still poor especially regarding the danger sign of pregnancy.
