Female feticide, a common problem in many countries such as India and China, is skewing the population and lowering the status of women in these societies. Ultrasound machines are the tool of choice for sex determination of a fetus. We have developed an algorithm that will take an ultrasound image, and will detect and localize the genitalia and output the image with the genital area blurred. Our algorithm uses a sliding window based approach and generates a number of features for each window. Then, a trained classifier recognizes whether the window contains genitalia or not, and provides a confidence level.
