This study aims to develop and test the effectiveness of a financial literacy storybook based on augmented reality (AR) as an executive function-building intervention for early-age children. Executive functions are the cognitive abilities underlying such tasks as focusing on long-term goals, delaying gratification and impulse self-control. The method is research and development using the ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation) model. This learning media produced a positive response among the users. Children perceive the story's attractiveness was good, while the 3D images and activity in the storybook were very good. This study also measures the effectiveness of a storybook based on AR in improving the understanding of financial literacy using a pre and post-test design. The results show that knowledge of honesty, discipline and money management increased significantly. In addition, there is a marginally significant increase in the aspects of delay gratification, saving goals and responsibility.
Innovative learning techniques are needed, to match the expectations of the current audience to improve business ethics education for the twenty-first century. One of the innovative technologies which is believed to have a big effect on a bachelor's degree is augmented reality (AR). Incorporating AR into the modern education system is expected to produce optimal augmentation in the learning and teaching environment. This will have a large impact on increasing students' moral imagination. This study examines the use of AR-based behavior simulation, as an innovative technique for learning ethics, to improve moral imagination. This study employs a 3 × 2 experiment method, three training modes (AR-based behavioral simulation, paper-basedbehavioral simulation, and no training) and two times (time one and time two) between-and within-subject factorial design. The subjects are 147 students on a business ethics course. The result of this study reveals that the use of AR-based behavior simulation can improve moral imagination.
The purpose of this study is to investigate some perceived factors in students reading achievement. This study focuses on the correlation between fourth graders’ safety feeling inside school environment and their reading enjoyment towards their reading achievement. Descriptive analysis used in this study and data draws from Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) 2016. The participants were 3349 students in their fourth year of schooling in Hong Kong where 49.1% were girls and 50.9% were boys. The range of the age was 8 to 15 years old. The result showed the importance of creating a safe school environment. Besides students’ perception of their school environment, students’ reading enjoyment was another factor which influenced reading achievement. Students’ perception of the school environment and students’ enjoyment in reading also affected students’ reading achievement, but the perception of reading is boring gave stronger effect to the reading achievement.
The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of implementing a Learning Management System (LMS) ‘TES Teach’ on students’ learning experiences in a computer-assisted language learning (CALL) course with flipped-class instruction. For the data collection procedure, an individual interview with ten undergraduate students from an Indonesian college was conducted to demonstrate the potential impacts of the LMS in students’ meaningful learning activities. The observation of students’ learning activities on the LMS was also recorded to support the interview data. The LMS was adopted to distribute and receive information, thus, the students were able to monitor learning activities, learn the contents before coming to class, evaluate learning process, and interact with others outside of class hours. The finding of this study suggests that the LMS TES Teach is recommended to be performed in teaching CALL for higher education in Indonesia. It offers students’ occasion to practice and enhances their listening, writing, reading and vocabulary skills in and out-of-class times. It also prepares students to get ready for classroom activities in term of conversations and speaking skills. The further use of the LMSs should become often-visited sites by students for learning activities and replaced other non-educational favorite websites. Finally, this study recommends that the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher education or policymakers in Indonesia, including instructors, students, and community members, must be actively involved in developing, supporting, and maintaining a transformed learning culture, from being traditional to a technology-based learning environment.
Purpose This study aims to examine financial socialization based on augmented reality (AR) technology for elementary school students, which it is hoped will improve their sharia financial knowledge. Design/methodology/approach The experimental method with pre- and post-test and control groups was used to test the improvement in the young learners’ sharia financial knowledge. This study used AR for sharia financial socialization on elementary school students and focused on sharia’s basic concepts, which include earning money, balanced spending, borrowing, saving, investment, payment methods, financial technology and the concept of protection. Findings This study finds empirical evidence that the treatment group, who received sharia financial socialization via the AR media, increased their sharia financial knowledge to a greater extent than the control group did. Research limitations/implications This study provides encouraging evidence about the potential of sharia financial education for elementary school students using the appropriate learning strategies and media. The weakness in this study is that it was only carried out in one elementary school, with the children of middle- to upper-income parents. Further research should be undertaken at several schools with the children of parents with different income levels. Practical implications A shift in learning styles from verbal or visual to virtual encourages the use of AR-based learning media. Financial concepts can be abstract ones, and AR-based learning media is able to present intangible virtual elements so they become more concrete and tangible. Social implications The global COVID-19 pandemic has affected all aspects. One of the most severe and likely to be multiyear ahead is the financial aspect. Therefore, this research is expected to be a preparation for the younger generation as early as possible to strengthen social benefits in order to improve sharia financial literacy. Originality/value Research into the financial literacy, especially sharia financial literacy aimed at elementary school students, is still very limited. The teaching of financial literacy will be more effective if educators use the appropriate strategies and media. This study used financial socialization strategies and AR learning media that are aligned with the learning styles of young learners.
This study proposes to present a sample design of a flipped learning instructional model for teaching Islamic Studies course at an Indonesian higher education institution. A bottom-up flipped learning model was developed in this study, based on Bloom's taxonomy of educational objectives. A Learning Management System (LMS), Schoology, was employed as a platform to share pre-class video lectures for student learning activities outside-of-class. Three main activities proposed by the researchers outside of the class activities, namely, Watching, Summarizing, and Notetaking (WSN), whereas give and take conversation is the main class activity. This study implies that the bottom-up flipped learning model could potentially be implemented for teaching Islamic studies course in Indonesian higher education institutions, with the aim of fostering students' highest level of cognitive domains and independent learning skills. This study has implications for the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia or policymakers to consider the flipped classroom as a contemporary teaching model for teaching Islamic studies course and other subjects at any in Indonesian higher education institutions.
