Durch die Qualifizierung lernen Physiotherapeuten, Patienten mit psychischen und psychosomatischen Beschwerden zu behandeln. d ie Integrative Leib-und Bewegungstherapie (IBT) ist eine Methode der Integrativen Therapie, die Prof. Dr. Hilarion Petzold und seine Mitarbeiter Mitte der 1960er-Jahre in Deutschland und der Schweiz entwickelten. Die Integrative Therapie verwendet verschiedene Ansätze der Psychotherapie. Petzold war es wichtig, in der Integrativen Leib-und Bewegungstherapie dem Körper und seiner Bewegung und Erinnerung eine zentrale Bedeutung zu geben. Die IBT vereint dafür Elemente aus der aktiven Psycho analyse, der Gestalttherapie, des Psychodramas und der Wahrnehmungs-, Atem-und Bewegungsarbeit unterschiedlicher Richtungen. Die Integrative Leib-und Bewegungstherapie spricht vom Leib (und nicht vom Körper), um deutlich zu machen, dass es keine Trennung zwischen Körper und Psyche gibt. Der Begriff Körper ist auf Funktion, Anatomie und Physiologie begrenzt, wohingegen der Begriff Leib ihn um die geistig-seelische Dimension erweitert.
