This paper focuses on the vibration analysis of Cable-Driven Parallel Robots (CDPRs). An oscillating model of CDPRs able to capture the dynamic behavior of the cables is derived using Lagrangian approach in conjunction with the Dynamic Stiffness Matrix method. Then, an original approach to analyze the modal interaction between the local cable modes and the global CDPR modes is presented. To illustrate this approach, numerical investigations and experimental analyses are carried out on a large-dimension 6-DOF suspended CDPR driven by 8 cables.
Cloud Computing has become a well-known primitive nowadays; many researchers and companies are embracing this fascinating technology with feverish haste. In the meantime, security and privacy challenges are brought forward while the number of cloud storage user increases expeditiously. In this work, we conduct an in-depth survey on recent research activities of cloud storage security in association with cloud computing. After an overview of the cloud storage system and its security problem, we focus on the key security requirement triad, i.e., data integrity, data confidentiality, and availability. For each of the three security objectives, we discuss the new unique challenges faced by the cloud storage services, summarize key issues discussed in the current literature, examine, and compare the existing and emerging approaches proposed to meet those new challenges, and point out possible extensions and futuristic research opportunities. The goal of our paper is to provide a state-of-the-art knowledge to new researchers who would like to join this exciting new field.
Motorized fluorescence microscopy combined with high-throughput microfluidic chips is a powerful method to obtain information about different biological processes in cell biology studies. Generally, to observe different strains under different environments, high-throughput microfluidic chips require complex preparatory work. In this study, we designed a novel and easily operated high-throughput microfluidic system to observe 96 different GFP-tagged yeast strains in one switchable culture condition or 24 different GFP-tagged yeast strains in four parallel switchable culture conditions. A multi-pipette is the only additional equipment required for high-throughput patterning of cells in the chip. Only eight connections are needed to control 96 conditions. Using these devices, the proteomic dynamics of the yeast stress response pathway were carefully studied based on single-cell data. A new method to characterize the proteomic dynamics using a single cell’s data is proposed and compared to previous methods, and the new technique should be useful for studying underlying control networks. Our method provides an easy and systematic way to study signaling pathways at the single-cell level.
We demonstrate a high-power laser system with a high-quality near-field beam by using a liquid-crystal spatial light modulator (SLM). An efficient spatial beam shaping algorithm is discussed which can improve the output nearfield beam quality effectively. Both small-signal and large-signal amplification situation of the laser are considered in the beam shaping algorithm. The experimental results show that the near field fluence modulation of output is improved from 1.99:1 to 1.26:1 by using the liquid-crystal SLM. Obvious uniform spatial fluence distribution and near-field beam quality improvement are observed.
The gene encoding mature trichosanthin, a type I ribosome-inactivating protein isolated from the tuber of Trichosanthes kirilowii Maximowicz, was transformed into calli of rice (Oryza sativa L.) by bombardment. Transgenic rice plants were obtained and confirmed by Southern and Western blot analysis. When transgenic rice plants expressing trichosanthin were inoculated with the spores of Pyricularia oryzae, a major rice fungus blast pathogen, the lesions on leaves were much less severe, and the seedling survival rate and whole plant weight were higher than those of control plants with the gus gene. The presented data demonstrate a novel, potential role of trichosanthin in antifungal protection in transgenic plants.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
