Social anxiety is a psychological disorder which has devastative and pernicious effects on interpersonal relationships and one's psychological flexibility. The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy on interpersonal problems and psychological flexibility in female high school students with social anxiety disorder. With a semi-experimental design, the subjects were assessed using the Social Anxiety Scale and clinical interview. The statistical population of the research was high school female students studying in 5 areas of Isfahan. 30 individuals were purposively selected as the sample. The subjects of the research were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy was given in 10 sessions of 90 minutes in the experimental group and the control group did not receive any treatment. Pre-test and post-test scores of Inventory of Interpersonal Problems, and Acceptance and Action Questionnaire were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance & the results showed that after the intervention, there was a significant difference between the scores of the subjects in the experimental and control groups. This means that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy can influence interpersonal problems and their six dimensions and psychological flexibility as well.
Introduction: Bipolar disorder is combined with chronic symptoms that have effect on cognitive abilities and executive functions. The purpose of present study was to investigate efficacy of mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) on impulsivity and self-inhibition in the patients with bipolar disorder under medical treatment. Methods: This study was quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest design with the control group. 30 men and women with bipolar disorder referred to psychiatry center of Almahdi Welfare in Esfahan were selected through convenience sampling method and assigned in two groups: experimental (14) and control (16) randomly. Both groups performed behavioral impulsivity scale (BIS-11) and self-inhibition scale (SRS) in the pretest and posttest phases. Experimental group was treated with mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) for 8 sessions. The data were analyzed by MANCOVA. Results: Covariate analyze demonstrated that of mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT) was effective on reducing the impulsivity and increasing the self-inhibition in the experimental group. Conclusion: Based on this finding, reduce cognitive impulsivity and motor impulsivity, and increase self-inhibition in anger control, impulse control and respect for others dimensions, is because of mindfulness based on cognitive therapy. Considering psychological intervention based on mindfulness, in addition to medical treatment is of particular importance.
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of group-Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on the intensity of pain, catastrophizing it and pain-associated anxiety in patients with chronic pain. The research design was quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest and one-month follow-up with control group. The statistical population was all individuals referring to psychological clinics, physical medicine and health centers in Isfahan city who were diagnosed to have chronic pain disorder in 2014. Out of 67 registered patients, 30 patients who had the research criteria were selected by the convenience sampling method and were randomly assigned into two groups each with 15 members. The subjects of the two groups all responded to Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire (CPAQ), Pain Intensity Scale (PIS), Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), and Pain-Anxiety Symptoms Scale (PASS-20). The experimental group received 8 90-minute sessions of Group-Acceptance and Commitment Therapy once a week. The data was assessed in 3 stages of pretest, posttest, and follow-up and was analyzed by multivariable covariance analysis. The results showed that the experimental group had a significant improvement in pain intensity, pain catastrophizing, and pain-associated anxiety (P<0/01) and this improvement was consistent after one-month follow-up. It can be said that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy can be effective on experience of pain of patients with chronic pain.
Aim and Background: Diabetes is one of the most prevalent and costly chronic diseases that imposes many limitations on the activities of the patient. Stress reduction treatment based on mindfulness is an intervention which is used in mind-body medicine in order to reduce mental and physical disorders in patients with chronic diseases. So, this study aims to investigate the effectiveness of stress reduction treatment based on mindfulness on emotion regulation problems and glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods and Materials:The paper is an experimental study based on control and treatment groups with pre-test and post-test. 34 male and female patients with type 2 diabetes having at least high education, from Molasadra Clinic of Isfahan, were selected and were placed randomly in two groups of control (N=17) and treatment(N=17). Pre-test stage was done for both two groups by cognitive emotion regulation questionnaire (CERQ) and also by means of Glucometer to measure glycemic of patients. The treatment group for 8 sessions of 2 hours (once a week) was placed under the training of mindfulness-based stress reduction intervention. Afterwards, the post-test was done for both groups. The obtained data using SPSS software version 20 and multivariate analysis of covariance were analyzed. Findings:The findings showed that MBSR had effect on emotion regulation problems, and glycemic control of patients with type 2 diabetes. Conclusions:On the basis of results, MBSR can have positive impact on emotion regulation problems, and glycemic control of patients.
Because of multiple psychological-physical symptoms and failure to accept the reality, multiple sclerosis (MS), patients are suffering from negative mood disorders and fatigue which affects their life quality negatively. Therefore this study has been conducted to determine the effect of Dohsa Psycho-Motor Rehabilitation Method on fatigue severity, sleep quality, and Resilience promotion of Patients with Multiple Sclerosis in Isfahan, Iran. A quasi-experimental study with pre-test, post-test and follow up was administered on both the experimental and control groups. The population consisted of all patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in Isfahan with clinical and MS society records. By purposive sampling 30 patients were selected for the experimental (n=15) and control (n=15) groups. Patients completed fatigue (FSS), Scale of sleep quality (PSQI) and Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) questionnaire before the beginning of the treatment (pretest) and also later for post-test. Dohsa treatment duration was ten sessions, three sessions per week and their post test was administered 30 days later. Finally, data were analyzed using SPSS18. The results of the multivariable covariance analysis showed that Dohsa Psycho-Motor Rehabilitation Method decreases fatigue severity, increases quality of sleep, and resilience of patients with Multiple Sclerosis (p<0.001). Since MS disease has led to widespread symptoms and different clinical signs, MS patients may need psychological rehabilitation in the future, therefore Dohsa Psycho-Motor Rehabilitation Method is an effective treatment for reducing fatigue, improving sleep quality and increasing the resilience of multiple sclerosis patients.
