The dentinal tubule penetration area was significantly affected by the selection of root canal sealer, final irrigation procedure, and root canal third. Use of iRoot with PIPS tip or PUI seems advantageous in dentinal tubule penetration.
Objectives:The aim of this study was to compare the amount of apically extruded debris during preparation with ProTaper Universal (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland), ProTaper Next (Dentsply Maillefer), a reciprocating single-file (WaveOne; VDW GmbH, Munich, Germany), and a self-adjusting file (SAF; ReDent Nova, Ra’anna, Israel).Materials and Methods:Fifty-six intact mandibular premolar teeth were randomly assigned to four groups. The root canals were prepared according to the manufacturers’ instructions using the ProTaper Universal, ProTaper Next, WaveOne, and SAF. Apically extruded debris was collected in preweighted Eppendorf tubes during instrumentation. The net weight of the apically extruded debris was determined by subtracting the preweights and postweights of the tubes. The data were statistically analyzed using the one-way analysis of variance and the least significant difference tests at a significance level of P < 0.05.Results:A measurable amount of debris was apically extruded in all groups, and the amounts of debris extrusion in the groups were statistically significant (P < 0.001). The ProTaper Next and WaveOne groups resulted in less debris extrusion than the ProTaper Universal group (P < 0.05), and the SAF group resulted in the least debris extrusion.Conclusions:Within the limitations of the present study, it can be concluded that all systems extruded debris beyond the apical foramen.
Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence and characteristics of dens invaginatus in anterior teeth and to classify the type of dens invaginatus in a sample of Turkish Anatolian population. Study design: A retrospective study was performed using full-mouth periapical and panoramic radiographs of 1012 patients. Maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth were evaluated for the presence and characteristics of dens invaginatus. Statistical evaluation of the presence of dens invaginatus related to gender was performed by the Pearson chi-squared test. Results: Dens invaginatus was observed in 13 out of 1012 subjects and in only maxillary lateral incisors. There were no periapical lesions in teeth with types I and II, whereas both of the subjects with type III had apical periodontitis at the time of referral. Males and females were almost equally affected by dens invaginatus (P= 0.98). Conclusion: The anomaly was detected in only maxillary lateral incisors with no gender difference and the most commonly observed type of dens invaginatus was type I (81.25%).
Syringocystadenocarcinoma papilliferum is the rare malignant counterpart of a more common, benign adnexal neoplasm known as syringocystadenoma papilliferum. Review of the literature identified 21 cases of syringocystadenocarcinoma papilliferum. Most reported SCACP seem to represent examples of in situ adenocarcinoma or invasive adenocarcinomas, whereas to our knowledge, only 3 cases were described as SCACP with squamous cell carcinoma. In the present series of 2 cases, we report of SCACP with squamous differentiation and 1 case of SCACP with regional lymph node metastasis. The risk of regional lymph node metastasis is low with SCACP, but it should be kept in mind for the risk of regional metastasis of its morphological type of invasive squamous cell carcinoma.
