The aim of the present study was to compare the characteristics and presentation of posterior space and non-posterior space abscesses of non-lactation mastitis and to determine the optimal surgical treatment for posterior space abscesses. A set of 98 cases diagnosed with non-lactational mastitis with abscess admitted to the Third People's Hospital of Chengdu from March 2014 to December 2020. According to the the presence or absence of posterior breast space with abscess, 40 patients were assigned to the posterior space abscess group and 58 patients were assigned to the non-posterior space abscess group.
